# A job ad says Vannevar Labs hit $80 million of annualized revenue and turned profitable on Pentagon money

> The defense-software company's own hiring materials claim $80 million in annual recurring revenue, early profitability and unicorn status, with contracts worth more than all its equity funding. The money doing the compounding is the Pentagon's, not venture capital's.

## The scale disclosure came from a job ad

The week's most candid financial disclosure in defense AI is the boilerplate of [a job posting dated November 4](https://trabajos.univision.com/job/23-13695_U-131206851193) [1]. It comes from [Vannevar Labs](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/vannevar-labs), founded in Palo Alto in 2019 by Stanford business-school classmates Brett Granberg, now chief executive, and Nini Moorhead [2][3], and it says the company grew from $3 million to $80 million in annual recurring revenue in three years, achieved early profitability, and reached unicorn status [1].

Forbes, which put Vannevar on its Next Billion-Dollar Startups list in 2023, adds the figure that matters to investors: the company's [government contracts now exceed everything it has raised in equity](https://www.forbes.com/sites/truebridge/2026/07/28/the-long-term-success-of-10-next-billion-dollar-startups-alums/) [4].

## The revenue is earned in deployments, not demos

What separates this from defense-AI peers burning venture capital is the unglamorous work between model and user. Vannevar's [careers board](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/vannevarlabs) says its software runs 125 deployments across every military branch and combatant command, with engineers deployed forward to operational units, and that when major combat operations with Iran began it fielded a new product to more than 9,000 users in three months [5].

Its flagship, ARCHER, supports command and control for planners and won a production contract worth up to $99 million from the Pentagon's Defense Innovation Unit in November 2024 [2]. In July, ARCHER was selected under APFIT, the Pentagon's fast-procurement program for commercial tech, to support Pacific Command [2]; that final fiscal-2026 round [pushed the program past $2 billion](https://www.gpsworld.com/dod-surpasses-2b-in-apfit-awards-debuts-software-capabilities-in-final-fy26-funding-round/) and funded software-only capabilities for the first time [6].

## Whose money this moves

[Palantir](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/palantir), the listed company this category gets priced against, said Monday that [quarterly revenue nearly doubled to $2.3 billion](https://siliconangle.com/2026/11/02/palantir-beats-q3-forecasts-as-us-commercial-revenue-overtakes-government-for-first-time/), with US commercial sales overtaking government sales for the first time [7]. Vannevar is earlier on that same curve.

*Chart: **Palantir's quarterly revenue has nearly tripled in two years** Palantir quarterly revenue, Q4 2024 to Q3 2026, rising from $0.8 billion to $2.3 billion*

*Quarterly revenue, US$ billions, from Palantir's SEC filings. [7][8]*

## The next mark and the next markets

Vannevar's holders, General Catalyst, Andreessen Horowitz, DFJ Growth and Felicis [4], have seen no round since January 2023, when the company had raised $90 million in total and already reported a profit [2]; its press page lists no funding since [9]. [Anduril](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/anduril), the venture-backed rival for the same budgets, was last valued at $61 billion [4].

A unicorn claim in a job ad is not a priced round, so the next raise or secondary sets the real mark. The hiring shows where the model repeats: 30 open roles include mission leads for cyber, law enforcement, economic security, special operations and unmanned-surface-vessel software [5], and [June's FedRAMP High authorization](https://vannevarlabs.com/media-coverage/) opens civil agencies beyond the Pentagon [9].

The capability was never the moat; the deployments are. Even the contracts-manager posting asks its hire to replace manual review with AI-native workflows [1]. Learning to run those workflows is now the job.

## Takeaway

Vannevar Labs' own hiring materials claim $80 million of annualized revenue and early profitability on Pentagon contracts; with no priced round since January 2023, the next raise or secondary, not a job ad, will set the real mark.
