# AeroVironment announced five deals in six days, none an order, against a $216 average analyst target

> AeroVironment is selling co-production to allies that want drone industries of their own, and 22 analysts still carry a $216 average target on a stock down about half this year. None of the week's agreements contains a funded order behind that price.

[AeroVironment](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/aerovironment) (Nasdaq: AVAV, AV for short) ended a six-day run of announcements on October 14, 2026, with [a license to sell its Switchblade one-way attack drones directly to Australian customers](https://defensewarroom.com/2026/10/14/aerovironment-direct-commercial-sales-australia/), outside the US government-to-government sales channel [1]. The other four are memoranda: local production with the Australian munitions group NIOA, a launcher study with Taiwan's unmanned-boat builder Thunder Tiger, JUMP 20 drone support with Spain's Alpha Unmanned Systems, and a connectivity deal with the ASX-listed firm Elsight [2].

Not one of the five discloses a contract value, a production volume, a timeline or a named variant [2]. The shares closed at $120.60, down about half since January [2]. The distance between that price and the analysts' target is an export pipeline that so far exists only on paper.

| Agreement | Counterparty | Coverage | Disclosed value or volume |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Direct commercial sales license | Australian customers | Switchblade one-way attack drones, contracted with AV directly rather than through US government sales | None |
| Memorandum | NIOA (Australia) | Australian-built warheads, integration and sustainment | None |
| Memorandum | Thunder Tiger (Taiwan) | Study of a multi-round Switchblade launcher for an unmanned surface vessel | None |
| Memorandum | Alpha Unmanned Systems (Spain) | JUMP 20 maintenance, training and sustainment | None |
| Partnership | Elsight (ASX-listed) | Resilient datalinks for the Mayhem 10 | None |

*The six days of announcements, October 8 to 14, 2026, as disclosed in the companies' own releases and coverage of them.*

## Every agreement still needs approvals and a final contract

[The NIOA memorandum, signed at the LAND FORCES defense exhibition in Perth](https://www.avinc.com/2026/10/13/av-and-nioa-sign-agreement-to-advance-one-way-attack-localization-and-co-production-in-australia/), explores Australian-built warheads, integration and sustainment. Its own text makes any transfer conditional on US and Australian approvals and on separate definitive agreements [3]. [The Thunder Tiger memorandum](https://www.rutlandherald.com/news/business/av-and-thunder-tiger-sign-mou-to-explore-uncrewed-systems-integration-and-co-production-in/article_eae9b68e-739a-5db2-a186-1198ad0244e1.html) sets the two companies studying a launcher that would carry multiple Switchblade rounds on an unmanned surface vessel [4].

## One structural change, four frameworks

Alpha covers maintenance, training and sustainment for the JUMP 20 drone, starting in Spain [5]. Elsight supplies resilient datalinks for the Mayhem 10, a drone built to orbit a target area and strike it [6]. The direct-sales license is the week's one structural change: Australian buyers can now contract with [AV](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/aerovironment) itself, shortening timelines and moving control over configuration to the customer [1]. In the words of AV's Asia-Pacific director Sean Colvin, a sovereign requirement without a responsive acquisition pathway is still a dependency [1].

## The funded orders are older and smaller

Taiwan's only announced Switchblade purchase is [a $60.2 million approval from June 2024](https://defensewarroom.com/2026/10/14/aerovironment-thunder-tiger-switchblade-usv-taiwan/), covering 720 Switchblade 300 rounds [7]. Australia's is a 2024 Switchblade 300 order of undisclosed value [1]. Taiwan's genuinely new money, about $1 billion through 2027, buys unmanned hulls of its own, and the launcher study is where AV's munitions would have to earn a place aboard them [7].

The booked base is real, [a $1.5 billion contracted backlog](https://theinference.org/article/aerovironment-is-down-43-despite-a-record-1-5-billion-backlog-and-a-464-8-million-army-laser-win) [8]. But the step that doubled revenue came from buying BlueHalo, the defense company acquired for $4.1 billion in May 2025, a deal that turned AV from a drone specialist into a multi-domain defense group [9]. The latest reported quarter barely grew on a year earlier [10], and the share-price fall tracks a sector-wide repricing on US budget worry that has hit drone stocks broadly [8].

## What holds revenue back is approvals and funded demand

The technology is already built and shown in public. Ukraine has used the company's systems against Russia for years [8], and at the same Washington show where the memorandum was signed, [Thunder Tiger exhibited a SeaShark 600 boat carrying a four-round Switchblade launcher](https://www.armyrecognition.com/archives/archives-defense-exhibitions/2026-archives-news-defense-exhibitions/ausa-2026-news/taiwans-thunder-tiger-seashark-600-usv-adds-bullfrog-counter-drone-defense-and-switchblade-300s-for-precision-strike) [11]. What sits between that hardware and revenue is licensing and funding: every co-production still needs US export approvals, and China placed AeroVironment on its export control list in March 2025 [7].

The ally AV most needs is also hedging. At the same Perth exhibition, NIOA signed [a parallel memorandum with the European missile maker MBDA](https://asiapacificdefencereporter.com/posts/nioa-mbda-to-explore-domestic-deluge-manufacture) to explore building the Deluge one-way attack munition in Australia, a round with up to 500 kilometres of range [12]. Two suppliers is sound sovereignty for Canberra, and it caps AV's exclusivity before a single round is co-produced.

## Real demand, but no quantity behind any signature

None of this week's signatures carries a quantity. The demand behind them is real, though: Australia's army says it is moving to employ autonomous systems at greater scale, and Taiwan has committed money to attack vessels of its own [1][7]. The value will go to whoever converts frameworks into funded quantities, and this week nobody did.

The markers are a definitive NIOA agreement, a funded Australian requirement, and a live launcher firing off Taiwan. Until one of them appears, the average target is pricing an option.

## Takeaway

Every one of AeroVironment's five October announcements is a framework, not a funded order; the $216 average analyst target prices conversions that have yet to happen.
