# Autodesk names Forma to replace Revit before pricing the AI; AECO is 49.7% of revenue, Nov. 27 prints

> Anagnost's own LinkedIn post on October 19 made Forma's succession official, but the agentic AI behind it has no subscription terms until 2027, and Autodesk is cutting the disclosure that would show whether renewals hold in the gap.

[Autodesk](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/autodesk)'s CEO has now said it himself: Forma will replace Revit. [Andrew Anagnost](https://theinference.org/markets/people/andrew-anagnost) [wrote on LinkedIn on October 19](https://ai4elab.com/10366.html) that every few years someone announces a Revit killer, and this year it is Autodesk, confirming "over time, yes" [1]. He framed it gently, Revit lingering like AutoCAD does, users moving at their own pace [1]. Investors should read it less gently. Revit sits inside AECO, the product family that [brought in $3.583 billion in fiscal 2026, 49.7% of company revenue and the fastest growing](https://constructionmetrics.com/2026/10/17/autodesk-diana-colella-leads-aec/) [2], and the successor is named while no successor pricing exists.

*Chart: **AECO, Revit's product family, is nearly half of Autodesk's revenue** Bars comparing fiscal 2026 Autodesk revenue by product family: AECO largest at $3,583 million, then AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT $1,787 million, MFG $1,379 million, M&E $332 million, Other $125 million.*

*Autodesk net revenue by product family, fiscal year ended January 31, 2026, US$ millions, from Autodesk's February 26 earnings release as reported by Construction Metrics. AECO includes Revit and Forma; AutoCAD is reported separately. [2]*

## The AI that carries the succession has no price yet

The gap is the pricing. The agentic AI that carries this strategy, the standalone Assistant previewed at Autodesk University on September 15, has no rollout timing or subscription terms until 2027 [2]. Anagnost [calls the answer amortization: some customers overpay for simple work, some underpay for complex work, and the average clears a margin](https://aecmag.com/ai/autodesks-most-ambitious-ai-play-yet/) [5]. That is a bet the installed base keeps paying seat renewals through a window where it cannot see what the AI will cost. A Bricks & Bytes panel of construction-software veterans already doubts where AEC is going, and Autodesk's own buyer-side coverage predicts billing shifting from seats to tokens [2]. Anagnost is betting migration runs as slowly as the AutoCAD exit did; the token model is betting it does not.

## Thinner disclosure meets the first renewals test

There is less outside light, too. On August 27 Autodesk [said it will stop reporting design-and-make revenue separately](https://kalkine.com/news/technology/autodesk-nasdaqadsk-raises-its-fiscal-2027-outlook-as-the-maintainx-deal-closes) [4], just as the succession applies to that business.

[The November 27 print, guided to $2.125-2.140 billion](https://theinference.org/article/autodesk-named-diana-colella-to-run-its-biggest-segment-half-its-revenue-with-ai-prices-not-due-until-2027) [3], is the first test of whether AECO renewals hold under a named successor and thinner disclosure. The number to watch is AECO renewal behavior in that print, not the product vision. The chain is real: project data, not geometry, is the moat [5], and whoever holds the project record holds the workflow. But the company has named the end state before it has priced the road there. That is when renewals, not announcements, are the fact that matters.

*Chart: **The November 27 print is guided to $2.125-2.140B, which would be another record quarter** Columns of Autodesk quarterly revenue rising from $1.417 billion in the quarter ended April 2024 to $2.046 billion in the quarter ended July 2026, with the quarter ending October 2026 guided between $2.125 billion and $2.140 billion.*

*Autodesk revenue by calendar quarter, US$ billions, from its SEC filings. The quarter ending October 31, 2026 is company guidance reported by The Inference, drawn as a range; results are due November 27, 2026. [3][6]*

## Takeaway

Autodesk has named Forma as Revit's successor before pricing the agentic AI behind it, and is ending design-and-make disclosure just as AECO, 49.7% of revenue, faces its first renewal test in the November 27 print.
