# Bristol Myers locked Tempus data through 2031 and led Pathos' $237 million round; Tempus reports November 2

> Bristol Myers Squibb extended its Tempus oncology data license through 2031 and, the same week, led rival Pathos AI's $237 million Series E. Tempus reports Q3 on Monday, November 2, and the print decides which layer of its own stack the market pays for.

[Bristol Myers Squibb](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/bristol-myers-squibb) spent the week of October 20 buying AI drug-development capability at two layers of the stack at once, and that double purchase is the real question hanging over [Tempus'](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/tempus-ai) third-quarter print on Monday, November 2 [1]. On October 23 the drugmaker extended its license to Tempus' multimodal oncology data through 2031, becoming one of Tempus' largest data licensors and taking access to Lens, Tempus' own agentic platform for oncology development [2].

The same week, it led Pathos AI's $237 million Series E at a post-money valuation near $3 billion [3]. That deal gives BMS non-exclusive access to Foundry, Pathos' agentic drug-development platform, along with three-year exclusivity on neuroscience programs [4]. A customer deepening one vendor is ordinary. A customer doing that while leading a rival's round and locking exclusivity elsewhere is a portfolio: BMS is paying for data at the bottom of the stack and hedging on whoever turns that data into decisions at the top.

## The value sits one layer above the data, and Tempus is selling into it

The chain here is short and readable. Multimodal clinical data feeds agent platforms; the agents synthesize trial results, genomics, specimens and competitor moves to steer a drug program toward the patients most likely to respond; better steering raises the probability that a candidate reaches patients [4].

Tempus owns the bottom link and, with Lens, is building the top one [2]. Pathos is building only the top, and Tempus is now its supplier: Pathos will license Tempus' de-identified neurology data under a five-year, $55 million agreement [4]. We flagged the related-party texture of that arrangement when the collaborations were announced last week; what is new since is the financing behind Pathos and the selling that followed at Tempus. One more detail points the same way: Pathos' CEO, Iker Huerga, ran real-world data strategy at Tempus before he crossed over [4]. He knows exactly what the data layer is worth, and he chose to build above it.

That is where observation ends and projection begins. The deals are signed; whether agentic steering measurably raises the odds that Pathos' four oncology assets reach patients is the untested part, and the assets themselves will test it.

## The week's tape splits into a scheduled seller and a conviction buyer

Tempus founder and CEO Eric Lefkofsky sold about $18 million of Class A shares on October 27 under a 10b5-1 plan adopted back in March, so the timing is administrative rather than a fresh judgment, though it does land days before the print [5]. [Cathie Wood](https://theinference.org/markets/people/cathie-wood)'s Ark funds bought the dip in the same stretch, funding the purchase by selling [Eli Lilly](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/eli-lilly) [6].

The stock closed Friday at $72.22, down 7.22%, in a market-wide rout of AI names [7]. A pre-set plan and a momentum buyer are not evidence about the quarter; they are the two camps positioned for it.

## Monday settles whether the growth story still holds

What the print has to answer is simple. Revenue rose about 22% year over year in the June quarter, its first with positive net income [8]. A year earlier, the same quarter had grown about 90% [8]. The BMS extension through 2031 is the kind of multi-year contract that should prop up the data business; Lens is the bet that Tempus captures the agent layer it is now supplying to a competitor [8].

*Chart: **Tempus revenue keeps climbing, but growth has cooled to about 22%** Line chart of Tempus AI quarterly revenue rising from about $181 million in the third quarter of 2024 to $382 million in the second quarter of 2026, with year-over-year growth slowing to 22 percent by mid-2026.*

*Tempus AI quarterly revenue in USD millions, from its SEC filings, third quarter 2024 through second quarter 2026. [8]*

Here is where the reasoning lands. The data layer holds its value, and Tempus has proved that again this week. The agent layer decides who captures the rest, and Tempus has the raw material plus a working agent product, so its job on Monday is to show it can own both layers rather than rent out the bottom one.

The data layer holds its value. The agent layer decides who captures the rest.

## Takeaway

Bristol Myers hedged across the AI drug stack: it extended Tempus' data license through 2031 and led rival Pathos' $237 million round at a $3 billion valuation. Tempus' Q3 print on Monday, November 2 decides whether the market pays for its data layer or its agent layer.
