# Cloudflare reports tonight after cutting 20% of staff; the test is $764 million of revenue to hold 36% growth

> Hours before tonight's Q3 report, Cloudflare shipped the analytics and allow-or-block policies that name every personal agent hitting a site. The quarter is the first full test of whether a company can cut 20% of its staff and still accelerate.

[Cloudflare](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/cloudflare) spent the summer absorbing [8,200 denial-of-service attacks an hour](https://theinference.org/article/cloudflare-blocked-13-47-of-ai-bot-requests-in-q3-up-from-5-98-vendors-sell-agents-the-way-in) for free [1]. Yesterday it [shipped the tools that could start charging for a slice of that traffic: analytics showing site owners exactly which personal AI agents visit](https://blog.cloudflare.com/personal-agents-visibility-control/), which user each agent acts for, and per-agent Allow, Block-on-ad-pages, or Block policies [1]. Tonight, after the close, the company reports third-quarter results, its first full quarter since cutting about 20% of its workforce in May [2].

## The gate went up the day before the number

The new Personal Assistants category in Security Analytics names each visiting agent and counts its requests; fraud teams using Account Abuse Protection can see which account an agent serves and choke off a single abusive account with a WAF rule [1]. Cloudflare says its next step is carrying user context, subscriptions and accountability through the agent itself [1]. The framing is direct: the person behind the agent is still a customer, and the site sets the terms [1].

## The free shield absorbed a 208% attack surge

The volume behind that gate is not hypothetical. Cloudflare [mitigated 18.2 million network-layer DDoS attacks in Q3, up 208% year over year](https://blog.cloudflare.com/ddos-threat-report-2026-q3/), mostly short bursts under ten minutes and under 1 Gbps from hire-a-botnet services [3][4]. Hyper-volumetric attacks above 1 Tbps fell to 251 from 805 after police broke up four IoT botnets [4]. Free unmetered DDoS protection is the moat; the agent controls are the tollbooth being built on top of it [4].

*Chart: **Revenue climbed from $379M to $696M in ten quarters before tonight's test** Column chart of Cloudflare quarterly revenue from Q1 2024 through a Q3 2026 guidance estimate, showing accelerating year-over-year growth into the quarter reported tonight*

*Quarterly revenue in USD millions, actuals from SEC filings through Q2 2026; Q3 2026 is the midpoint of management's $736-737 million guidance, an estimate. Sources: Cloudflare SEC filings [5]; Yahoo Finance [2]. [5][2]*

## Revenue, not margin, answers the layoff

The cut's savings already sit in guidance: management points to [$129 million to $130 million of non-GAAP operating income](https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/stocks/articles/cloudflare-cut-20-staff-may-192524289.html), roughly 17.6% margin [2]. Growth is the open question.

Matching Q2's 36% takes about $764 million, roughly 4% above the guide's top and in line with the last three beats; a print near $737 million means growth slowed to 31% while [AWS](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/amazon) grew 39% and Azure 48% [2]. JPMorgan upgraded the stock to Overweight on November 3; SaaStr's Jason Lemkin calls the layoff the model, with "no downside to the business that is apparent yet" [2].

*Chart: **Growth accelerated for five straight quarters into the layoff; the guide implies a step back** Line chart of Cloudflare's year-over-year quarterly revenue growth from Q1 2025 to a Q3 2026 guidance estimate, rising for five straight quarters to 36 percent before an implied slowdown to 31 percent at the guide midpoint*

*Year-over-year revenue growth by quarter, computed from the quarterly revenue figures in Cloudflare's SEC filings [5]; Q3 2026 uses the $736.5 million guidance midpoint, an estimate. Sources: Cloudflare SEC filings [5]; Yahoo Finance [2]. [5][2]*

## About $764 million settles the acceleration case

About $764 million or more vindicates the acceleration-with-fewer-people case; a raise of the full-year range a third time would confirm it [2]. Anything near the guide hands the demand excuse, taken away by Amazon and [Microsoft](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/microsoft), back to the execution question [2].

## Takeaway

Tonight's print decides whether Cloudflare can hold 36% growth a full quarter after cutting 20% of staff: $764 million or more vindicates the cut, a print near the $737 million guide reopens the execution question.
