# Coinbase and Deribit launch 50x perpetual futures on CoreWeave as its bonds trade below 80 cents

> On October 14, in the same session CoreWeave's bonds traded below 80 cents, Coinbase and Deribit listed USDC-settled perpetual futures on CoreWeave, Oracle, Palantir and Dell. The fees land at Coinbase now; the US version waits on the CFTC.

[Coinbase](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/coinbase) and Deribit switched on [six perpetual futures tied to CoreWeave, Oracle, Palantir, Dell and two ETF tickers](https://cryptobriefing.com/coinbase-deribit-six-equity-perpetual-futures/), one of them a three-times-inverse chip fund, at 10:00 UTC on October 14 [1]. That was mid-session on the day [CoreWeave's 2032 bonds traded below 80 cents on the dollar](https://cryptobriefing.com/coreweave-ceo-backlog-memo-debt-concerns/) [2]. Two things are true at once: volatility in the most indebted AI names just became round-the-clock fee revenue for Coinbase, and the AI trade gained a leveraged channel that never closes [1].

## The plumbing underneath is two weeks old

A perpetual future has no expiry; a periodic funding payment keeps its price pinned to the underlying stock. These contracts settle in USDC, the dollar stablecoin, trade around the clock at up to 50x leverage, and exclude US persons, which makes the product one Coinbase built for everyone else [1]. The engine is Deribit, the crypto derivatives venue bought for about $2.9 billion last year; institutional accounts moved onto its rails on October 1, and this is the third wave of equity perpetuals since March [1][5].

*Chart: **Launch day closed with the new perps' underliers down 9 to 15 percent** Bar chart of closing moves on October 14, 2026: CoreWeave -15%, Dell -11%, Nebius -10%, Oracle -9%, Nasdaq Composite -2%.*

## Volatility became a product

Every contract is margined and settled in USDC, so each new name adds stablecoin demand and exchange fees [1]. The timing is the point. [CoreWeave](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/coreweave), an AI cloud operator running hyperscaler-scale spending on a junk-rated balance sheet, paid [$640 million of net interest expense last quarter against a $104 billion backlog](https://coincentral.com/coreweave-crwv-stock-plunges-15-as-musk-replies-yikes-to-bond-yields/) of contracted revenue, not cash [3][4]. At that leverage, a 2% move against a position erases the posted margin, and the adjustment now reaches leveraged holders overnight, while the bond market that started the selloff is closed [1].

The repricing behind the launch is sector-wide: [Alphabet](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/alphabet), [Amazon](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/amazon), [Meta](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/meta) and [Oracle](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/oracle) have [issued more than $228 billion of bonds this year](https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/coreweave-shares-tumble-as-bond-yields-near-15-on-concern-about-ai-borrowing-binge/ar-AA2efaJF), more than double all of 2025, and lenders now want extra pay for AI risk [4].

## Washington holds the last link

The offshore build runs ahead of the domestic one by design. As we covered this week, [CFTC Staff Letter 26-29](https://financefeeds.com/coinbases-window-to-turn-25-year-index-futures-into-true-perpetuals-closes-october-20/) lets exchanges strip expiry dates from index futures only until October 20, and it does not reach single stocks [6]. The single-stock version for US traders sits in [a September CFTC filing](https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/options/articles/coinbase-files-cftc-list-us-151111791.html) with no decision date set, inside a two-regulator process with the SEC [7]. The CFTC did approve Coinbase's clearing subsidiary on September 28, and [US options trading is expected this quarter](https://www.digitaltoday.co.kr/en/view/113045/coinbase-deribit-integrate-institutional-trading-network-us-options-to-launch-in-fourth-quarter) [5].

The rails are built and tested; the unfinished link is permission, and it sits in Washington rather than in the stack. Coinbase has made the product real for everyone outside the United States and will keep adding names [1]. When the gate opens at home, the traders who already understand funding payments and margin mechanics will be the ones able to use it.

## Takeaway

Coinbase and Deribit turned the AI credit scare itself into a product: USDC-settled 50x perpetuals on CoreWeave, Oracle, Palantir and Dell went live offshore on October 14, the same session CoreWeave's 2032 bonds traded below 80 cents and its stock fell 15%. Volatility in the most indebted AI names is now round-the-clock fee revenue, and the US single-stock version sits in a CFTC filing with no decision date.
