# Disco Corp shipped 60% more chip machines as its stock fell 41% from its high; results land October 22

> The chip-equipment rout just knocked Disco 41% off its 52-week high, yet the company's own preliminary figures show September-quarter shipments up 60% year on year. Four days before the full report, the machine orders and the market are telling two different stories.

On October 6, while the chip rout was still gathering speed, Disco Corporation filed preliminary numbers almost nobody outside a German stock aggregator noticed: July-September sales of JPY 118.5 billion, up 38.9% from JPY 85.3 billion a year earlier, and first-half sales of JPY 213.6 billion against JPY 160.8 billion [1][4][5]. The full report lands October 22, management meets the market on the 23rd [1].

The shipments matter more than the sales. [Preliminary shipments hit JPY 123.9 billion](https://www.marketscreener.com/news/disco-corporation-reports-preliminary-non-consolidated-sales-results-for-the-second-quarter-and-firs-ce785dd9d889ff25), 60% above a year earlier, running ahead of recognized sales [1]. Machines have left the dock before the revenue is booked. That is demand entering the pipeline, not leaving it.

*Chart: **Disco's shipments are accelerating into the October 22 print, not rolling over** Column chart of Disco's year-on-year growth: June-quarter sales up 27.1%, September-quarter sales up 38.9%, September-quarter shipments up 60.0%.*

*Disco's shipments are accelerating into the October 22 print, not rolling over [2][1]*

The market priced the opposite. The iShares Semiconductor ETF [fell nine straight sessions](https://seekingalpha.com/news/4654037-semiconductor-etf-historic-selloff-amid-chip-rout) for roughly 12% in its worst week since April 2025, with [Applied Materials](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/applied-materials), [ASE Technology](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/ase-group), [SK hynix](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/sk-hynix), [Credo](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/credo) and [Teradyne](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/teradyne) each down more than 15%, on AI-buildout worries, [CoreWeave](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/coreweave) credit concerns and a hotter-than-expected US inflation print that raised the odds of tighter Fed policy [3]. Disco closed October 16 at JPY 53,850, 41.26% below its 52-week high of JPY 91,680, at 40.13 times trailing earnings [1].

That gap is the trade. The sellers are pricing a demand slowdown; the shipment line up 60% contradicts it. The rout reads as a rate-and-financing scare, not an order-book event, and Disco's own filings say the order book is fine. The June quarter already set a record 42.7% operating margin, with the first-half outlook implying about 43.7% for the September one [2]. Consensus agrees the price overreacts: [21 analysts rate Disco a BUY](https://www.ad-hoc-news.de/boerse/news/nebenwerte/disco-reports-on-october-22-2026-results-guide-disco-stock/70348676) with a mean target of JPY 81,575, about 51% above the close [5].

The complication is real, though. Hanmi Semiconductor, the Korean customer rationed during Disco's 2019 saw shortage that [built its own machine instead](https://theinference.org/article/disco-s-record-42-7-margin-meets-the-rival-its-2019-squeeze-created), says eight months of 2026 MSVP sales beat all of 2025, with over 200 units shipping this year [2]. Substitution is no longer theoretical at the edge of the market Disco dominates.

What the October 22 print decides: whether the equipment selloff anticipated a cycle turn Disco's shipments never saw, or merely a rate shock the tape can reverse. Watch the shipment-to-sales gap when the audited figures land. If the machines keep moving, the rout priced the wrong thing.

## Takeaway

Disco's preliminary shipments ran 60% above a year earlier and ahead of recognized sales, yet the chip-equipment rout left the stock 41% off its high: sellers priced a demand turn the order book does not show, though Hanmi's in-house grinders are a real erosion at the edge. The October 22 audited print decides which story the tape got right.
