# Elastic's new agents ship with no price; its co-founder sold $135 million

> Two agent products carry Elastic's four-month rally, and both ship as previews with no price; in the week they launched, a co-founder sold stock while one Geneva fund crossed 5%.

On October 5, [Elastic](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/elastic) (NYSE: ESTC) co-founder Steven Schuurman [sold about $135 million of the company's stock](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1707753/000112329226001368/form4.xml) [1][2]. The same day, the Geneva investment adviser Pictet Asset Management [crossed the 5% ownership line with purchases for its clients](https://www.stocktitan.net/sec-filings/ESTC/schedule-13d-elastic-n-v-major-shareholder-acquisition-5-c81fb3ebe928.html), and three days earlier chief revenue officer Mark Dodds had [sold shares with no prearranged trading plan on file](https://www.stocktitan.net/sec-filings/ESTC/form-4-elastic-n-v-insider-trading-activity-cfe444cb98b8.html) [3][4]. The four-month rally both sides were trading leans on two AI agents that ship as previews, with no price [5][6].

## The agents really do change an analyst's shift

AlertZero, announced October 8, [puts a team of specialized agents inside Elastic Security](https://www.marketscreener.com/news/elastic-announces-alertzero-a-team-of-specialized-ai-agents-for-the-security-operations-lifecycle-ce785ddfdb8cff22): they triage alerts, hunt threats, tune detection rules and run forensics, pooling findings into one investigation record [5]. The goal is inbox zero for the security operations center, [thousands of raw alerts reduced to a short queue of recommended actions](https://theinference.org/article/elastic-s-datadog-challenge-runs-on-benchmarks-elastic-graded-itself), with analysts deciding how much to delegate [5].

The need is concrete. In one recent attack, an autonomous agent generated more than 17,000 events across a production environment in four days; every signal was detectable, and connecting them was the work [5]. A sibling product, [nightshift AI SRE, was announced the same day](https://www.marketscreener.com/news/elastic-announces-private-preview-of-elastic-nightshift-ai-sre-ce785ddfde81f626): an agent built into Elastic Observability, for the site reliability engineers who investigate outages, released as a private preview and free for existing customers during early access [6].

## The targets price a hop nobody has built yet

Since mid-June [the shares have rallied more than 150%](https://finance.yahoo.com/m/b7bbf798-a13e-3be3-a117-67cf27919373/enterprise-software-leader.html) [7]. On October 9 the New York brokerage Monness, Crespi, Hardt turned positive on the stock [8], and Stifel analyst Brad Reback [raised his target to $120 from $107 after Elastic's New York customer conference](https://www.streetinsider.com/Analyst+Comments/Elastic+NV.+%28ESTC%29+PT+Raised+to+%24120+at+Stifel+on+Improving+Customer+Commentary%2C+Strong+U.S.+Federal+Checks/27169253.html), citing improving customer commentary and strong US federal demand [9]. The shares closed October 12 at $95.52 against a 30-analyst average target of $111.52 [8].

[The filings behind that view](https://www.sec.gov/cgi-bin/browse-edgar?action=getcompany&CIK=0001707753) show no step change: revenue has grown steadily for twelve quarters, and the operating result is back in loss [10].

## Insiders sold into the rally; one fund bought

Schuurman's sale was 1.5 million shares at $90.13, [through his holding company CMXI B.V.](https://theinference.org/article/elastic-co-founder-files-141-million-share-sale-just-below-the-street-s-average-target); he kept about 4.5 million and sits on Elastic's board [1]. Dodds sold 10,000 shares at $92.58 [4].

Pictet built a stake that cost about $412.5 million for its managed institutional clients, and says it may seek to influence Elastic's policies through discussions with the board and management [3]. It added 236,590 shares on October 5 alone, the day of Schuurman's sale [3]. At the October 12 close, that stake was worth roughly $520 million [3][8].

Elastic is reorganizing around the agents before they have earned anything: [it confirmed a 7% workforce cut in June](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elastic_%28company%29), in an announcement by chief executive Ash Kulkarni, [sized by the blog top10.dev at 250 to 280 roles](https://top10.dev/story/elastic-cuts-7-the-opensearch-tax-finally-shows-up-on-the-pl-2065) and framed as a realignment around the same Search AI strategy [2][11].

## A price on AlertZero will settle what the targets assume

Alert volume already outruns the analysts available to work it, so if the agents hold up outside preview, they are likely to sit under most security teams within a few years, Elastic's or a rival's [5]. The money is further off than the targets imply. Elastic's shares price a future in which security teams pay for these agents, and no filing yet shows them doing so. The first public price on AlertZero will tell more than another target raise.
