# Everspin lost a third of its value in 30 days, then won the JEDEC chair

> The only listed pure-play MRAM maker lost a third of its value in a memory sell-off with no downgrade, then disclosed its executive chairs the JEDEC group deciding how persistence enters LPDDR. Q3 lands Wednesday.

[Everspin Technologies](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/everspin-technologies), the Chandler, Arizona maker of magnetoresistive memory (MRAM), a memory that keeps data when the power is cut, has 85 employees and a market value of $306.57 million [2]. Its stock [fell 31.8% in 30 days](https://tickeron.com/blogs/everspin-technologies-mram-stock-falls-31-8-in-30-days-analyzing-the-drivers-21489/), from $18.47 on September 25 to $12.59 on October 23, alongside a broad semiconductor and AI-hardware sell-off [2]. No analyst downgraded it. No negative company news appeared. Then, on October 20, the company disclosed something the sell-off did not price [1].

## The seat at the standards table

Everspin announced that Steffen Hellmold, its vice president of corporate strategy, chairs a new JEDEC [task group exploring an LPDDR persistent-memory standard](https://www.marketscreener.com/news/everspin-technologies-to-chair-new-jedec-task-group-exploring-lpddr-persistent-memory-standard-ce785cd8d988f526), under the JC-42.6 Low Power Memories Subcommittee [1]. JEDEC is the body that sets memory industry standards; LPDDR is the low-power DRAM ecosystem used in phones and beside AI accelerators.

The task group includes memory, controller and hyperscale data-center companies, and its work would let persistent memory ride the existing LPDDR ecosystem [1]. Hellmold has 30-plus years in JEDEC work, and Everspin has shipped DDR STT-MRAM into data centers for more than ten years [1].

If that standard blesses MRAM as the persistence layer of LPDDR, content per AI-server memory module grows for the one listed pure-play. If DRAM vendors absorb persistence into their own parts instead, Everspin stays an industrial-and-defense niche chipmaker [1].

## The tape versus the targets

The fundamentals did not cause the fall. Everspin [reported record Q2 2026 revenue of $18.7 million](https://www.sec.gov/cgi-bin/browse-edgar?action=getcompany&CIK=0001438423), up 42% year over year, with non-GAAP earnings of $0.11 per diluted share, beating guidance, helped by a two-and-a-half-year, $40 million subcontract with a US prime defense contractor [2]. Four analysts carry a consensus Buy and an average target of $25.50, more than double the tape; Maxim Group initiated at Buy with a $25 target, Needham holds Buy at $19 [1][2].

*Chart: **The lowest analyst target is still 51% above the tape** Bar chart comparing Everspin's $12.59 share price at the October 23 close with analyst price targets: Needham at $19, Maxim Group at $25 and a four-analyst consensus average of $25.50.*

*Everspin's closing price on October 23 versus analyst price targets, in US dollars per share. Consensus is the four-analyst average; Maxim initiated at Buy with a $25 target and Needham holds Buy at $19. [1][2]*

*Chart: **Revenue climbed to a record $18.74 million in Q2 2026, up 42% year over year** Line chart of Everspin quarterly revenue from Q3 2024 to Q2 2026, rising from $12.09 million to $18.74 million.*

The swing factor for Wednesday, October 28, when Q3 lands, is timing [2]. Guidance calls for revenue of $19.5 million to $20.5 million and non-GAAP EPS of $0.10 to $0.15, but management says the $40 million defense subcontract will not follow a straight line [2].

## Two camps, one print on October 28

Two camps hold the stock. The sell-off camp cut it a third as high-beta memory. The analyst camp prices standard-setting optionality at double the tape. Beneath both sit DRAM vendors that could keep persistence for themselves versus the pure-play chairing the spec [1]. TheJEDEC seat is an option, not revenue; nothing in the announcement prices MRAM into an LPDDR module yet [1]. The print on October 28 decides which camp the valuation belongs to [1]. Watch the defense subcontract's revenue timing first; the standard follows on JEDEC's clock, not the market's.

## Takeaway

Everspin's 31.8% slide priced it as high-beta memory; the JEDEC chair it disclosed mid-rout, and Wednesday's Q3 print, decide whether it becomes the persistence layer of LPDDR or stays a defense-and-industrial niche.
