# Figma beat and raised, but the stock fell 16.7% to $18.44 as shareholders fund the AI bill

> Figma's quarter shows what it costs to hand every design team an AI agent before those teams pay for it: gross margin fell three points and the stock fell 16.7% in a day. The bet is that 2.5x credit consumption and a first-party model turn the bill into pricing power.

[Figma](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/figma) beat its own revenue guidance by $16 million, raised its full-year outlook, and still lost 16.7% of its value on November 5, closing at $18.44 [1][3][4]. The market is not wrong to look past the revenue line: the quarter shows what it costs to put AI agents in front of every design team before those teams have paid for them. Shareholders are funding that bridge, and the stock now prices the question of whether the bridge holds.

## Who is paying the bill, and why

The mechanics are simple. Figma let the Figma agent run at its own expense ahead of general availability on October 6, and [non-GAAP gross margin slid three points sequentially](https://theinference.org/article/figma-s-gross-margin-fell-from-92-4-to-83-7-as-it-gives-away-ai-agents-nov-4-shows-if-customers-pay) as a result [2]. In August it also repriced AI credits, handing customers more usage for the same add-on price; add-on utilization rose about 40%, and the CFO, [Praveer Melwani](https://theinference.org/markets/people/praveer-melwani), told Reuters [the move trades near-term revenue for adoption](https://d2233.cms.socastsrm.com/2026/11/04/figma-banking-on-ai-credits-in-house-model-to-lift-margins/) [3][2]. Management itself cautioned that pricing changes can pressure near-term growth and net retention before bigger commitments convert [2].

## The usage is real, and the beneficiaries are concrete

Enterprise design teams are the winners for now: they get about 40% more usable AI for the same price, and weekly AI credit consumption is up 2.5x since the agent went generally available, with 65% of large paid customers using the agent weekly [2][3].

Figma more than doubled the share of agent work run on its own post-trained design model, which Melwani says serves customers with "lower latency, higher quality and a more efficient price point" [3]. If coding agents make production code cheap, the scarce input becomes design judgment, and on this reading Figma's credit meter sits on that scarcity; the doubling of first-party model share is what lets the meter carry weight later.

## Two ways to price the bridge

Growth decelerates to about 33% in Q4, and the raised 11% operating-margin guide only holds if gross margin recovers as prepaid inference converts into paid consumption [1][2]. At $18.44, with $1.7 billion in cash, the market is pricing that recovery as failing [1][4]. Watch weekly credit consumption and the first-party model's share next quarter: if both keep rising, the margin dip was the cost of loading the meter, not a broken model.

## Takeaway

Figma beat and raised but fell 16.7% to $18.44: the quarter charges shareholders for AI inference ahead of paying customers, and the bet rests on 2.5x credit consumption converting into margin.
