# Hubbell's data-center quarter: Electrical Solutions up 51%, guidance raised, debt doubled to fund it

> The grid-and-electrical supplier beat estimates and raised guidance on data-center demand, but the growth was partly bought: debt doubled and interest expense quadrupled to fund $3 billion of acquisitions.

[Hubbell](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/hubbell) shipped $1.87 billion of hardware in the third quarter, up 25% from a year earlier, and beat the street: adjusted EPS of $5.91 cleared the $5.75 consensus, and revenue topped the $1.85 billion estimate [1][3]. The growth engine was Electrical Solutions, up 51% to $845 million, with organic sales up 22% "led by strong datacenter markets," in the words of CEO [Gerben Bakker](https://theinference.org/markets/people/gerben-bakker) [1]. The wiring, enclosures and components that connect AI data centers to the grid just printed their best quarter of the boom.

## Guidance up, dividend up, margins wider

Margins and cash flow moved the same direction as sales. Adjusted operating margin expanded 160 basis points to 25.5%, and free cash flow reached $280 million against $254 million a year ago [1].

Management raised full-year adjusted EPS guidance to $20.40 to $20.60, attributing the move primarily to stronger anticipated Electrical Solutions growth; the release does not quantify the prior range, so the size of the raise has to be read from the direction, not the delta [1]. Four days before the print, the board [lifted the quarterly dividend 7% to $1.52](https://econotimes.com/Hubbell-Sets-7-Dividend-Increase-Raising-Quarterly-Payout-to-1-52-1761944), payable December 15 [2]. Raising the payout four days before the print signals management expected the beat.

*Chart: **Revenue reached $1.87 billion in Q3 2026, up 25% year over year** Hubbell quarterly net sales, Q1 2024 through Q3 2026, in billions of dollars*

*Quarterly net sales, $ billions, Hubbell SEC filings via company_series; Q3 2026 of $1.873B rounds from the $1,872.5M in the Q3 release [1][3][5]*

## The debt that bought the growth

The complication sits on the balance sheet. Total debt more than doubled to $5.12 billion and net debt to total capital hit 51%, up from 28% at year end, after $3.0 billion of acquisition spending in nine months [1]. Interest expense ran $58.0 million this quarter against $13.6 million a year earlier [1]. Acquisitions added 13 points of the quarter's 25% sales growth [1]. Hubbell bought its way to this growth; utilities and data-center operators pay for the components, and shareholders carry the leverage.

*Chart: **Total debt jumped past $5 billion in Q2 2026 after $3 billion of acquisition spending** Hubbell total debt by quarter, Q3 2023 through Q2 2026, in billions of dollars*

*Total debt, $ billions, per Hubbell's SEC filings retrieved via company_series (source 6). The series runs through Q2 2026; the Q3 2026 release reports total debt of $5.12 billion and net debt to total capital of 51%, up from 28% at year end. [6]*

## The risk Hubbell names itself

[The release lists](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/10/27/3388868/0/en/hubbell-reports-third-quarter-2026-results.html), among the factors that could hurt results, "continued strength in datacenter markets, notwithstanding certain opposition" [1]. In plain terms, the company treats opposition to data-center building as a threat to the very demand driving this growth, and Grid Automation already shrank about 4% in the quarter [1]. Watch the backlog build and the Electrical Solutions organic rate into Q4 [1]. The AI trade now runs through conduit and enclosures.

## Takeaway

Electrical Solutions jumped 51% on data-center demand and guidance was raised, but debt doubled to $5.12 billion to fund $3 billion of acquisitions, leaving shareholders with the leverage bill.
