# IQVIA, the world's largest drug-trial operator, will run its studies on rival Veeva's software

> IQVIA, the world's largest contract research organization, made Veeva's trial-management software its enterprise standard today. IQVIA pays the subscriptions, sponsors can buy the full Veeva stack through IQVIA, and IQVIA's own software keeps only the data-capture layer.

The world's biggest drug-trial operator will now run its studies on a rival's software. [IQVIA](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/iqvia), the largest contract research organization, said this morning that [Veeva](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/veeva-systems)'s CTMS, eTMF, Study Startup, and Site Connect will be enterprise standard applications across its clinical development studies, [extending the data-capture deal the two struck after settling every dispute between them last year](https://pressreleasehub.pa.media/article/iqvia-selects-veeva-clinical-operations-applications-85913.html) [1][2]. The truce's second deliverable is a distribution win for Veeva: the industry's largest trial operator now sits inside its sales channel.

## Veeva takes the layer where the work happens

Those four applications are the workflow layer of a trial: CTMS runs the study, eTMF is its regulatory filing archive, and Study Startup and Site Connect open research sites and move the documents between them. Enterprise standard means Veeva subscriptions ride on IQVIA's studies, and [sponsors who want the full Veeva clinical stack can now buy it through IQVIA itself](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/iqvia-selects-veeva-clinical-operations-applications-302906462.html) [1]. Richard Staub, IQVIA's president for research and development solutions, held one line of ground: customers keep the freedom to choose EDC, randomization, and patient-reported-outcome tools, "including IQVIA's innovative capabilities" [1]. That is the data-capture layer, where IQVIA still sells. The layer above it, where studies are planned and executed, now belongs to its former opponent.

## The release says nothing about what IQVIA gave up

No terms, no date for converting studies into Veeva bookings, and no word on IQVIA's own trial-management tools appear in the announcement. What IQVIA holders can weigh is concentration: days earlier, Italy's data protection authority [fined the company €7 million after finding that health records of roughly a million patients](https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/iqvia-fined-78-million-for-failing-to-properly-anonymize-health-data/), held under codes, were not truly anonymous. IQVIA says that dataset is not used in clinical research and it may appeal [7]. [StreetInsider's aggregated analyst rating on IQV stands at SELL](https://www.streetinsider.com/Corporate+News/IQVIA+expands+Veeva+partnership+for+clinical+operations+tools/27176952.html) [3].

## Agents will run where this layer sits

The workflow layer is worth more every year because agents live in it. Veeva walked away from [Salesforce](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/salesforce) in 2025, bought the engagement-agent firm Ostro for $100 million in March [8], and its commercial CRM already [turns a sales rep's voice note into a filed call report and flags reimbursement barriers](https://www.veeva.com/blog/powering-agentic-commercial-latest-innovations-in-veeva-vault-crm-suite/) [5]. An agent can only act where the work is recorded, so IQVIA's decision puts the operational record of a large share of the world's trials into the substrate Veeva's agents read. How fast that becomes automated trial operations is projection; the direction is not.

*Chart: **Veeva's revenue has climbed every quarter for three years, and its old rival now distributes it** Line chart of Veeva quarterly revenue from Q3 fiscal 2023 to Q2 fiscal 2026, rising from $617M to $928M*

*Quarterly revenue, US$ millions, Veeva fiscal quarters ending October 2023 through July 2026, from its SEC filings. [9][4]*

Veeva arrived at the deal [growing 17.6 percent on its fiscal second quarter](https://stockstory.org/us/stocks/nyse/veev/news/earnings/vertical-software-stocks-q2-results-benchmarking-veeva-systems-nyseveev), with the stock up sharply since that report [4]. A capability is not impact, and the value here was created by converting a decade-long adversary into a channel, exactly the unglamorous work between the two that deserves the reward. More is promised at Veeva's R&D and Quality Summit in Boston on October 20 and 21 [1]. IQVIA kept where the data lands. Veeva took where the work happens.

## Takeaway

The world's largest contract research organization has made rival Veeva's trial-management software its enterprise standard, moving the workflow layer of a large share of the world's trials into Veeva's channel while IQVIA keeps only data capture.
