# Microsoft is giving away the work Intuit sells, and the bill arrives on November 19

> Microsoft now ships month-end reconciliations and drafted journal entries to every Microsoft 365 Copilot seat; Intuit answers with $145 million of mid-market annualized recurring revenue and an acquisition nobody has priced. The quarter that tests both closed on October 31 and prints on November 19.

On October 29 [Microsoft](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/microsoft) put [more than 25 finance skills inside Copilot](https://www.accountingtoday.com/news/microsoft-announces-copilot-capacities-for-audit-tax-compliance-more), its AI assistant: Excel now sits in the Copilot app, so a bookkeeper can reconcile accounts against bank statements, flag missing records and duplicate entries, and draft journal entries for a human to approve without opening anything [Intuit](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/intuit) sells. [1] Plugins connect Copilot to QuickBooks, Xero and Zoho Books, the ledgers small businesses already run. [1][2]

Demand arrived before general availability: in seven days of Insider access, more than 8,000 unique users invoked the accounting skills more than 44,000 times across more than 18,000 Copilot conversations. [1] "You can either start from Excel, or you can start from Copilot," Brian Jones, Microsoft's corporate vice president of the Excel product group, [told CFO Dive](https://www.cfodive.com/news/microsoft-expands-copilot-reach-in-finance-workflows/873239/). [2]

## Intuit sells the same work, and Microsoft just bundled it

Intuit Enterprise Suite, the mid-market ERP and accounting product Intuit launched to keep growing QuickBooks customers from leaving, leans on the same promise: over 75% of its customers use Intuit's AI agents every month to keep books current, automate transaction work and close faster, by the company's account. [3] Enterprise Suite [annualized recurring revenue passed $145 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026](https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/INTU.MX/earnings/INTU.MX-Q4-2026-earnings_call-676137.html), four times the prior year. [3]

Intuit's model also pays accounting firms a share of the bookkeeping its agents automate, as [our October 27 article](https://theinference.org/article/intuit-pays-accounting-firms-up-to-25-of-net-billings-as-agents-automate-their-book-close) reported: Intuit shares up to 25% of net billings with firms whose clients' books the agents help close (https://www.theinference.co/article/intuit-pays-accounting-firms-up-to-25-of-net-billings-as-agents-automate-their-book-close) [4]. That is the revenue Microsoft now hands to every Copilot seat at no extra charge, though Microsoft's announcement lists no prices or regions, and some plugins may need their own subscriptions. [4]

*Chart: **Intuit's mid-market measures grew 28 to 39 percent in fiscal 2026; the whole base grew 3 to 6 percent** Bars ranking six Intuit fiscal 2026 growth measures: mid-market revenue 39%, QuickBooks Online Advanced and Enterprise Suite online ecosystem revenue 38%, new-to-franchise mid-market customers over 30%, mid-market customers 28%, US QuickBooks Online customers excluding self-employed 6%, total online paying customers 3%. The four mid-market bars are highlighted.*

## The counterattack leans on a company nobody has priced

On October 15 Intuit [agreed to acquire Sequence](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20261015895580/en/Intuit-to-Acquire-AI-Native-Revenue-Management-Platform-Sequence/), a Series A company whose software automates pricing, billing, collections and revenue recognition; financial terms were not disclosed and no closing date was given. [5] Twelve days later, at its Intuit Connect conference, Intuit listed new revenue management capabilities in Enterprise Suite "as a result of Intuit's recent acquisition of Sequence," marked "coming soon." [6]

The contrast with Intuit's history is the finding: Credit Karma was priced at $7.1 billion in a filing and took 283 days to close, Mailchimp $12 billion and 49 days. [6] Sequence has no price, no date and no filing. [6] And Sequence's own site sells a two-way sync with NetSuite and Xero, two ledgers Intuit's rivals sell; Intuit has committed to support Sequence's customers but has not said whether those connections survive the close. [6]

## The migration numbers come from Intuit's own stage

[Ashley Still](https://theinference.org/markets/people/ashley-still), Intuit's executive vice president for small business and mid-market, [told SiliconANGLE's theCUBE](https://siliconangle.com/2026/10/30/mid-market-erp-how-intuit-uses-ai-avoid-failed-intuitconnect/) that 50% of mid-market ERP implementations fail, typically at $60,000 and six months; theCUBE is a paid media partner for Intuit Connect, so treat the figure as a company-told talking point. [7] Intuit's claim that customers using AIA-style construction invoicing, the American Institute of Architects progress-billing format, were paid within 30 days at a 32% higher rate is company-reported and controls for nothing. [8]

## Copilot can read the books it cannot write; Microsoft buys reach, Intuit keeps the accountant

Copilot works only with files each person already has access to, and an audit trail records what it changed and why; nothing in Microsoft's announcement shows it posting entries into QuickBooks's ledger, rather than reading data the seat-holder can already reach, and a human signs the drafted entries. [4]

Microsoft's plugin list runs past accounting into [FactSet](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/factset), Morningstar and [S&P Global](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/s-and-p-global), a platform play that cost it little: the company spent $45.2 billion on capital expenditure last quarter and is offering buyouts to 60,000 workers to fund the AI build-out. [2] Intuit's moat is the accountant: 70% of mid-market firms use one, accountants drove 25% of new Enterprise Suite contracts last year, and over 150,000 accountants sit on Intuit Accountant Suite. [3][7]

## Three questions one earnings call must answer

Intuit reports [first-quarter fiscal 2027 results on November 19](https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/stocks/articles/intuit-announce-first-quarter-fiscal-200000019.html) for the quarter that closed on October 31, two days after Microsoft's launch. [9] It guides revenue growth of about 11%, with a $1.48 share-based-compensation impact inside non-GAAP EPS now that stock comp stays in the math. [3] The print should settle three open questions: whether Enterprise Suite annualized recurring revenue keeps compounding, whether Intuit reprices small-business agent features against Microsoft's free bundle, and where the undisclosed Sequence price lands. [3][5]

## Takeaway

Microsoft's free Copilot accounting skills now sit in every Microsoft 365 seat; Intuit's $145 million Enterprise Suite ramp, its accountant channel and its unpriced Sequence acquisition get their first test when fiscal Q1 results print on November 19.
