# Nine banks with $20 trillion in assets bought into Rogo, the AI their analysts already pay to use

> Five of Rogo's own bank customers put about $30 million into the company in September, on a cap table last priced at $2 billion, roughly 38 times run rate. When the buyer owns the vendor, a renewal decision and a valuation decision are the same conversation.

## The founder posted growth numbers; five of his customers bought the company

Gabriel Stengel spent two years as a Lazard banker before co-founding [Rogo](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/rogo) [1]. On October 9 he said [annual recurring revenue grew 70 percent last quarter and the firm added more than 100 customers](https://x.com/jbahrdestefano/status/2108613234370425225), a founder figure relayed on X and unaudited [2]. Rogo had already passed $50 million in ARR by early September, more than triple its end-2025 level, with a run-rate target near $100 million by early 2027 [2].

Then the buyers reached for the cap table: Citi, Barclays, BNP Paribas, MUFG and Société Générale [signed roughly $30 million of strategic investments](https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/other/wall-street-s-favorite-ai-startup-sets-its-sights-on-wealth-management/ar-AA2bWfZ2) [3], and MUFG's venture arm [announced its own stake on September 10](https://www.ad-hoc-news.de/boerse/news/corporate-news/mufg-subsidiary-invests-in-rogo-and-mufg-stock-trades-at-eur-20-20/70226793), citing collaboration across the group [4].

## Nine banks, $20 trillion, one vendor

With J.P. Morgan, Wells Fargo and Truist already holding stakes [3], nine banks with [nearly $20 trillion in combined assets](https://startupniti.com/funding/nine-global-banks-invest-30-million-in-us-a582d0e6/) now own a piece of the software their analysts use [5]. Rogo has raised about $340 million across six rounds, last priced near $2 billion in [April's $160 million Series D](https://www.revenuememo.com/p/rogo-funding) [3][6], roughly 38 times [the $53 million ARR Sacra estimated in August](https://sacra.com/c/rogo/) [6][7]. The names marking up sit on that round: Kleiner Perkins led it, with Sequoia, Thrive Capital and Khosla Ventures aboard [7]. Their yardstick is [Harvey](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/harvey), the legal-AI assistant valued at $11 billion [6], and the bet is that Rogo does for bankers what Harvey did for lawyers [6].

## The renewal and the equity mark sit at the same desk

When the buyer owns the vendor, a renewal decision and a valuation decision are the same conversation. Truist Securities' chief executive appears on [Rogo's own homepage](https://rogo.com/), crediting "the relationship and strategic investment" for productivity gains [8]. Neither Rogo nor its backers publish churn, renewal or pricing terms, so nothing outside the company can show how much of that ARR is earned rather than owned.

## Cheap seats, expensive target

Sacra puts Rogo's pricing near $3,300 a seat, against more than $30,000 for a FactSet seat [7]. The banks therefore pay twice: their venture arms fund cap-table seats at the $2 billion mark while their desks pay a license priced well under the incumbent terminal.

Usage is real and costly: Rogo installed guardrails this summer after one intern at a big bank was on pace to burn tokens at a $250,000 annualized rate [3]. The company's site now claims 60,000 users across 450 firms, up from 35,000 users at more than 250 institutions when the Series D closed [8][6].

*Chart: **Users and institutions both up roughly 70 percent since the Series D** Column chart comparing Rogo's 35,000 users and about 250 institutions at the April Series D with 60,000 users and 450 institutions in October.*

*Rogo's site counts 60,000 users across 450 firms, against 35,000 users at more than 250 institutions when the Series D closed. Sources: Rogo homepage (8), Revenue Memo (6). [6][8]*

*Chart: **ARR tripled in eight months; the early-2027 target calls for nearly double** Column chart of Rogo's revenue and ARR on four bases: about $2 million of 2024 revenue, $15 million of end-2025 revenue, a $53 million August 2026 ARR estimate, and a $100 million early-2027 run-rate target.*

*2024 and end-2025 are calendar-year revenue (Forbes, via Revenue Memo); Aug 2026 is Sacra's ARR estimate; the early-2027 bar is the reported run-rate target, not reported revenue. [2][6][7]*

## The owners are also the competition

Ownership cuts both ways. JPMorgan, [Goldman Sachs](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/goldman-sachs) and Citi are building internal models of their own [7], [Anthropic](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/anthropic) shipped finance agents in May [6], and the top 50 banks' AI-startup investing has compounded at 21 percent a year since 2023 [5]. Nine banks now grade their own homework: they buy the seats, hold the equity, and fund the rival.

## What would settle it

The next ARR print against the $100 million target will say more than any announcement [2]. So would the name of the ninth bank [6], or the price anyone pays for the $2 billion mark secondarily. Until pricing and churn are disclosed, the stickiest number on Rogo's books is also the least tested.

## Takeaway

Rogo's September round blurred the line between customer and shareholder: nine banks holding about $20 trillion in assets now own a piece of the software their analysts pay for, which flatters the ARR that supports a $2 billion valuation until churn and pricing are disclosed.
