# Ramp built a Lovable clone with four people; investors paid $13.3 billion for the original

> Ramp teaches every new hire its in-house Lovable clone during onboarding, Stripe built one with a single engineer in six weeks, and named rival Manus raised $500 million-plus the same day. August's $400 million round at $13.3 billion assumes enterprises keep renting software they can now build in a few weeks.

## New Ramp hires learn the clone first

Every new hire at Ramp now builds a tool in Glass as part of onboarding, and "pretty much every non-engineer" at the company uses it, according to [The Pragmatic Engineer's account](https://newsletter.pragmaticengineer.com/p/the-pulse-new-trend-of-building-internal) of a visit to Ramp's New York headquarters. Glass is Ramp's "internal [Lovable](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/lovable)," a vibe-coding platform for non-engineers built by a four-person team. One marketing employee built herself a custom CRM with more than 50 fields and filters on it [1].

## The $13.3B bet says the clones stop at two

Lovable [raised $400 million in August at a $13.3 billion valuation](https://news.puhulab.com/raw/feeds/2026-08-12-lovable-series-c-techcrunch), double December's $6.6 billion [2], and crossed a claimed $600 million annualized run-rate in September, up from about $500 million in June [3]. That is about 22 times claimed revenue. TechCrunch's owner, Regent, is an investor in the August round [2]. Chief executive Anton Osika's stated ambition is that Lovable be "[the platform where the first one-person unicorn is built](https://www.inc.com/brian-contreras/one-person-startup-unicorn-lovable-founder-ceo-anton-osika/91404184)" [4]. For scale, the market's biggest mark in the category went to a tool for engineers: [SpaceX agreed in June to pay $60 billion in stock for Cursor](https://techcrunch.com/2026/06/16/spacex-to-acquire-cursor-for-60b-in-stock-days-after-blockbuster-ipo/) [9].

*Chart: **Lovable's $13.3B sits between a $60B exit and a $4B funded rival** Bar chart comparing three marks in the AI app-builder market: Cursor $60B, Lovable $13.3B, Manus $4B estimated*

*Latest valuation marks or agreed deal prices for AI app-building startups, in billions of US dollars. Lovable per its TechCrunch-reported August 2026 round; Cursor per SpaceX's agreed $60B stock acquisition of June 2026; Manus estimate per Bloomberg-reported round talks, final valuation undisclosed by the company. [2][6][9]*

## Stripe built its version in six weeks, for one engineer

Stripe's Harbor, an "AI-assisted prototyping tool," was built by a single engineer in around six weeks. The reasons are cold: exposing internal data to a third-party tool is risky, generated apps must follow the in-house design library, and compliance review of a vendor costs about as much effort as building the thing. The same report expects many more companies to copy both, because "it's not that complicated" [1].

## A funded rival landed the same day

Manus parent Butterfly Effect said on October 8 [it raised more than $500 million led by Boyu Capital and IDG Capital](https://techcrunch.com/2026/10/08/chinas-manus-raises-over-500m-in-first-funding-round-since-split-with-meta/), its first round since Beijing forced the unwind of [Meta](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/meta)'s $2 billion acquisition [5][6]. TechCrunch lists Lovable among the products Manus resembles, and reported over $100 million in annual recurring revenue at the time the Meta deal died [5]. The valuation is undisclosed; [Bloomberg-reported talks put it near $4 billion](https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/ai-startup-manus-raises-500-million-in-first-funding-round-since-meta-breakup/ar-AA2dO1s0) [6][7].

## The other side is reach a clone cannot copy

Lovable claims [two-thirds of the Fortune 500 now use its product](https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/other/lovable-s-annualized-revenue-crosses-600m-as-vibe-coding-takes-off/ar-AA2cUj6c), with [Microsoft](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/microsoft), [Nvidia](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/nvidia) and Deutsche Telekom named as customers, and apps built on it drawing close to a billion visits a month [3]. Microsoft's Copilot Managed Runtime, in public preview since September 25, runs Lovable apps inside corporate tenants [8](https://theinference.org/article/lovable-rents-shelf-space-from-two-landlords-building-its-rivals), and staying neutral between two landlords is the one thing neither landlord sells. Either way, Microsoft starts usage-based billing on Copilot licenses on November 2: the runtime collects whether the app is Lovable's or home-built [8].

## What to watch

Lovable's next run-rate print against its enterprise seats, Microsoft's runtime pricing as its own builder matures, and whether Manus discloses a valuation or files in Hong Kong [5]. The build-versus-buy question now has a price on both sides: $13.3 billion to buy the platform, six weeks and one engineer to build it.

## Takeaway

The build-versus-buy math in AI app builders is now explicit: Ramp and Stripe built internal clones with four people and one engineer, while Lovable fetched $13.3 billion on the bet enterprises keep renting. Watch Lovable's run-rate against enterprise seats and Microsoft's Copilot runtime pricing from November 2.
