# Robinhood Chain trading falls 42% while $1 billion sits parked and Robinhood pays the fees until December 31

> Transactions on the three-month-old chain have slid every week since mid September while deposits hold above $1 billion. The fee line Robinhood keeps about 90% of has fallen from $8 million on its best day to about $65,000 a day, and the gas subsidy keeping traders moving now runs to December 31.

## Trading fell 42% and the money stayed

[Robinhood](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/robinhood) Chain [averaged 6.2 million transactions a day over the week of October 2 to 8, down 42%](https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2026/10/10/robinhood-chain-slowdown-spreads-from-fees-to-trading-as-transactions-fall-more-than-40) from 10.8 million a day in the week of September 10 to 16, with active addresses down 31% to about 322,000 and weekly spot trading down 21% to $7.45 billion [1]. The money did not follow the activity out: deposits in the chain's apps rose 2% to $1.04 billion, and stablecoin supply held near $1.10 billion [2]. The capital did not leave Robinhood Chain; it stopped changing hands.

*Chart: **Every activity line fell week over week except deposits and perp volume** Bar chart of week over week changes for the week of October 2 to 8: daily transactions down 42%, active addresses down 31%, weekly spot trading down 21%, app deposits up 2%, perpetual futures volume up 26%.*

## The fee line Robinhood keeps has collapsed

Users paid roughly $65,000 a day in network fees in the October 2 to 8 week, down 39%, against about $8 million on the chain's busiest day in early September [1]. Robinhood keeps roughly nine tenths of network fees, a September Bernstein note found, so the decline lands in the exact revenue line the chain was built to produce [1]. It [booked $50.2 million of fees from September 1 to 23](https://cryptobriefing.com/robinhood-chain-50m-transaction-fees/) alone [3]. Next to the brokerage's [$1.31 billion of second-quarter revenue](https://www.sec.gov/cgi-bin/browse-edgar?action=getcompany&CIK=0001783879) [5] the level is small; the direction is the story. The flow reaches others: 87% of Arbitrum's record $5.45 million September revenue was Orbit licensing, in practice Robinhood Chain's 10% cut [6].

*Chart: **Robinhood Chain's daily fees went from $8 million to $46 thousand** Column chart showing Robinhood Chain daily network fees collapsing from about $8 million on the early September peak day to $641,000 in the week to September 16, $65,000 in the week to October 8 and $46,000 in the 24 hours to October 10.*

*Network fees paid by users, in thousands of dollars per day. The first column is a single day, the middle two are weekly averages, the last a 24-hour reading. Method: CoinDesk and FinanceFeeds calculations on growthepie and DefiLlama data. [1][2][7]*

## Built for stock tokens, powered by memecoins

The chain launched on July 1 with tokenized stocks as its flagship use case [4]. The boom came from elsewhere: [the Pons launchpad minted 22,600 tokens in a single August day](https://theinference.org/article/robinhood-chain-s-fee-record-and-an-18-4-million-rug-ring-ran-on-the-same-launchpad), and Pons and the memecoin trader GMGN supplied most app revenue [4]. "It works great for memes too," CEO Vlad Tenev said in July [4]. Real world asset trading ran under $30 million in mid September, less than 0.1% of volume, by a KuCoin tally [6]. The tokenized-equity case rests on deposits that now barely turn over.

## A hangover, not an exit

[Fees fell 97% to about $230,000 on September 16](https://financefeeds.com/robinhood-chain-fees-plunge-97-as-memecoin-frenzy-cools/) while the chain still processed 8.9 million transactions that day [7]; what changed in October is that turnover followed the fees down [1]. Total value locked sits near $1.05 billion, with 24-hour fees near $46,000 [2][10]. The cooling is industrywide, not an exodus: Solana's PumpSwap fell 36% in the same week Pons fell 37% [7], and trackers show no mass migration off Robinhood's network [8]. Perpetual futures are the one growth line, up 26% to about $7.35 billion [1].

## December 31 is the experiment

The promotion covering network fees on wallet swaps over 50 cents was due to expire September 29; Robinhood has extended it through December 31, and trading platform Arcus has handed out extra reward points since October 1 [1]. The chain is separately [weighing Arbitrum's Priority Gas Auctions, which would let traders pay to move up the processing queue](https://www.analyticsinsight.net/news/robinhood-chain-may-let-traders-pay-extra-to-get-transactions-processed-first); Robinhood declined to comment [9]. Weeks of fading activity while the gas is free cannot settle what happens when users pay their own way. December 31 can.

## Takeaway

Robinhood Chain's activity fell 42% in a month while deposits held above $1 billion, shrinking the fee line Robinhood keeps about 90% of; the gas-fee promo now runs to December 31, when paying users will show whether the chain works without a subsidy.
