# Roblox's AI flood arrived early, and the clone economy rode in with it

> Roblox's own letter shows the AI content flood already holds top-20 shelf space, while a viral Slay the Spire clone selling Robux revives shows what fills it, and Q4 guidance carries the compute bill in negative free cash flow.

[Roblox](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/roblox)'s [shareholder letter, furnished with its 8-K on October 29, 2026](https://www.stocktitan.net/sec-filings/RBLX/8-k-roblox-corp-reports-material-event-bf64854e48ab.html), reads like a victory lap for AI game creation [1][2]. More than 80% of the platform's top 100 games by hours used AI tools in the past month, and 500,000-plus users of Build, the prompt-to-game tool now in a four-country alpha, have already published over 70,000 games [1][2]. Two games made almost entirely with AI, Break and Steal an Egg and Huss Valley, broke into the top 20 by concurrent players [1][2]. The flood is real. So is the bill.

*Chart: **AI compute costs rise while users, payers and creator payouts fall** Bar chart of year-over-year percentage changes for Q3 2026 Roblox metrics: revenue +16, infrastructure and trust and safety +24, bookings -12, daily active users -9, hours -15, payers -16, DevEx payouts -6.*

## The clone economy moved in first

The same platform's players caught the flood's underside first. On October 30, a [post on the r/slaythespire forum documenting a 1:1 copy](https://old.reddit.com/r/slaythespire/comments/1xjq8j7/someone_copied_slay_the_spire_11_on_roblox_and_is/) of Slay the Spire on Roblox drew 5,195 upvotes: same relics, same damage and [HP](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/hp) numbers, same character colors, with nothing added but Robux revives and skins [3]. A player emailed the original developer, Mega Crit [3]. Cloning costs nothing, and Roblox collects a cut of every Robux either way.

## Creators are paid less while the compute bill grows

The P&L shows who carries it. [Developer Exchange payouts, the money flowing to creators, fell 6% year over year to $403 million in Q3](https://www.gaming.net/roblox-q3-revenue-rises-16-as-bookings-fall-12-to-1-7-billion/), while infrastructure and trust and safety spending rose 24% to $258 million on AI training and inference costs [1][2]. Payers fell 16% to 30 million [1][2]. For Q4, Roblox guides bookings down 10% to 15% and free cash flow to between negative $190 million and negative $105 million, including $380 million of capex [1][2].

The market had already voted: [the stock fell 18.1% on October 30](https://www.trefis.com/stock/rblx/articles/621863/what-is-behind-the-move-in-roblox-stock/2026-11-02), versus 1.8% for the S&P 500, leaving it down 67.9% over twelve months [4].

## December decides which way the flood cuts

The counterpoint is Roblox's own: bookings were up more than 50% on a two-year basis, over-18 users monetize 50% or more above minors, and [Build's US rollout lands in December](https://theinference.org/article/roblox-fell-18-after-earnings-as-bookings-dropped-12-and-ai-built-games-reach-the-us-in-december) [1][2]. That is the observable test. If prompt-built games refill paying users before February's Q4 print, the compute bill buys the future [1][2]. If they only clone attention, Roblox is farming its own landlord.

Learn more in our earlier coverage below to see how the December rollout fits the booking hole.

## Takeaway

Roblox's AI content flood is already real and already costly: two AI-built games reached the top 20, but bookings, payers and creator payouts all fell while compute spending rose 24%, and Q4 guidance puts free cash flow at negative $105 million to negative $190 million before Build's US rollout tests whether prompt-built games refill paying users.
