# Saronic's Corsair drone boats have three theaters of combat; the $3.3 billion shipyard opens in 2028

> Three Corsairs hit Iran, patrolled the Panama Canal and ran AUKUS missions in a single year, while the Navy's $392 million award is the only disclosed revenue under a $9.25 billion mark. The $3.3 billion Brownsville shipyard, opening in 2028, is what the next round actually prices.

The demand is proven. The capacity is not. Four events in ten days, each covered in its own silo, add up to one story: [Saronic's Corsair drone boats are now fighting](https://theinference.org/article/a-7-metre-drone-boat-struck-iran-now-saronic-is-selling-a-260-metre-shipyard), rescuing and patrolling for four commands and two allies, and the company is betting $3.3 billion that it can build a shipyard to fill the pipeline the combat record opened.

## The boats already have the jobs

The Corsair, a 7.3-meter autonomous surface vessel carrying up to 453 kg over roughly 1,852 km at more than 35 knots, [struck a maintenance facility at Iran's Bandar Abbas naval base on July 12, 2026](https://defensewarroom.com/2026/10/27/aukus-saronic-corsair-drone-boats/), in CENTCOM's first combat use of sea drones [1]. Task Force 59 has fielded Corsairs since late March; in June one recovered two downed Army Apache crewmen from the Gulf of Oman [1].

Two new beats landed this week. At AUKUS's Maritime Big Play Pacific off Southern California (October 5 to 25), three Corsairs ran pier resupply under denied communications and a trilateral sense-decide-effect mission inside the Navy's Common Control System, through [Saronic](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/saronic)'s Echelon software [1]. And Gen. Frank Donovan, SOUTHCOM's commander, said [Corsairs are now stationed at Guantanamo Bay and on both sides of the Panama Canal](https://breakingdefense.com/2026/10/exclusive-southcom-chief-seeks-unmanned-river-solution-as-he-embraces-autonomy/), doing narco-terrorist operations and canal security [2]. That is three theaters of actual employment in one year.

## Capacity: two answers to one scarcity

Saronic [broke ground on October 18 at Port Alpha](https://www.imarinenews.com/39933.html), Brownsville: $3.3 billion, 835 acres expandable to nearly 4,000, operations from 2028, initial capacity of about 150,000 gross tons a year [3]. Hanwha is taking the other road: control of Hanwha Philly Shipyard [closes on October 31 in a $237.6 million transaction](https://gcaptain.com/hanwha-defense-usa-to-take-control-of-philly-shipyard-as-navy-shipbuilding-push-accelerates/), atop $5 billion of planned investment toward 20 vessels a year [4]. A foreign prime retrofitting an existing yard; a startup pouring one from scratch.

*Chart: **Capacity bets dwarf the Navy's only disclosed Saronic award** Bars comparing capital at work: Hanwha $5 billion Philadelphia expansion, Saronic $3.3 billion Port Alpha, Hanwha's $100 million yard purchase, and Saronic's $392 million Navy production agreement.*

*US dollars in billions, per company announcements: Hanwha investment plan and purchase (gCaptain, Oct 2026); Saronic Port Alpha total investment (Imarine News, Oct 2026); Navy Other Transaction production agreement, Dec 2025 (Defense War Room, Oct 2026). [1][3][4]*

## The gap the next round prices

Inside Saronic, the tension is the disclosed revenue anchor: the Navy's $392 million production agreement, about $200 million obligated at award in December 2025 [1], against [the $9.25 billion valuation set in March](https://www.techceodaily.com/startups/defense-tech-funding-mach-industries-valuation), when the company raised $1.75 billion [5]. The yard, not the boats, is what the next mark prices. Until Port Alpha's 2028 opening date and the Navy's delivery rate under the OTA hold, the combat record proves the product but not the factory [1][5].

The strongest counterpoint: capacity spend is not capacity. Port Alpha's headline figures, including 10,000 jobs and a claim of more than doubling US merchant shipbuilding capacity, come from Saronic and Texas officials [3], and Hanwha's Philadelphia ramp is a target, not a delivered ship [4]. Watch the Navy OTA delivery rate and whether AUKUS Pillar 2 demonstrations convert into funded orders [3][4]. The boats wrote the résumé. The yard has to earn the fee.

## Takeaway

Corsairs proved demand in three theaters in one year, but Saronic's $9.25 billion mark rests on Port Alpha, a $3.3 billion shipyard that opens in 2028, with the Navy's $392 million OTA still the only disclosed revenue.
