# Super Micro pre-announced up to $19.5 billion in sales; tonight's report must show neocloud customers can pay

> The AI server builder's October 20 preview lifted September-quarter revenue to $18.5–19.5 billion and gross margin to 12.0–12.5%, and the stock has since handed the rally back. After the close tonight, the report has to show the margin holds and that its neocloud customers can still fund the racks.

At 5 p.m [1]. Eastern today, [Super Micro Computer](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/super-micro), the San Jose builder of AI servers, reports a September quarter it [pre-announced on October 20](https://theinference.org/article/super-micro-s-4-billion-beat-is-real-only-if-the-cash-shows-up-on-november-3): revenue of $18.5–19.5 billion against its own guidance of $14.5–15.5 billion, gross margin of 12.0–12.5% against 10.4–10.8% [1]. The preview answered growth. It left payment open. The stock closed October 30 at $32.95, 48 cents above its level before the preview, having given back nearly all of the October 21 rally [2].

## The beat nobody modeled

Wall Street entered the week near $16.1–16.3 billion of revenue and $1.20–1.23 of earnings per share, still under the pre-announced low end [3][4], and analysts tracked by TIKR model about 10.3% gross margin for fiscal 2027 [2]. A 12-cent print would top every quarter of the past two fiscal years except the June quarter's 17.5% [5].

*Chart: **Super Micro's gross margin: 17.5% last quarter, preliminarily 12.0–12.5% now, 10.3% modeled for 2027** Line chart of Super Micro's quarterly gross margin from Q1 2024 through the preliminary September 2026 quarter, spanning 6.3% to 17.5%, with tonight's preliminary point at 12.25% against a 10.3% analyst reference line.*

*Quarterly gross margin, percent of revenue, calendar quarters. The final point is the midpoint of the company's preliminary, unaudited October 20 range for the quarter reporting tonight. ## The growth camp's exhibit runs to $68 billion

The August guide for fiscal 2027 is $65–72 billion, and the company entered the year with record backlog after booking more than $60 billion of new orders in the June quarter [3]. At [Goldman Sachs](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/goldman-sachs)' September conference, corporate development chief Michael Staiger conceded the neocloud worry "was around at $7 billion at $15 billion at $22 billion, at $39 billion, and it's going to exist at $68 billion" [2]. [Third-party data cited at the same session](https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/stocks/articles/super-micro-stock-given-back-130520076.html) put Super Micro's share of neocloud servers, machines rented out as AI computing power, near 40% [2].

*Chart: **Revenue sat near $5 billion a quarter until late 2025, then doubled; tonight's quarter is pre-announced at up to $19.5 billion** Column chart of Super Micro's quarterly revenue from Q1 2024 through the preliminary September 2026 quarter: flat between $4 billion and $6 billion for six quarters, then $12.7 billion, $10.2 billion and $11.1 billion, with tonight's quarter preliminarily at about $19 billion.*

*Quarterly revenue in billions of US dollars, calendar quarters. The final column is the midpoint of the company's October 20 preliminary range of $18.5–19.5 billion for the quarter reporting tonight, still unaudited. ## The funding camp reads the cash flow statement

Fiscal 2026 burned $6.8 billion of operating cash and left $12.9 billion sitting in inventory, as customers delayed deployments over power and cooling constraints [3]. KeyBanc wants expansion funded internally, without dilution or fresh borrowing [4].

On October 27, Reuters reported that Super Micro-backed Argentum AI, a Chicago neocloud founded in 2025 and led by chief executive Andrew Sobko, [is negotiating a $5 billion private-credit facility for chips](https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/general/exclusive-neocloud-firm-argentum-ai-in-talks-for-5-billion-ai-chip-financing-sources-say/ar-AA2gbgxi) at its Polish data center, [debt that backs chips leased to customers without investment-grade ratings](https://theinference.org/article/super-micro-s-5-billion-order-rides-on-debt-to-unrated-clients); Sobko has since confirmed the financing [6][7].

[Intel](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/intel) chief Lip-Bu Tan then [flagged memory prices and availability as a brake on demand](https://247wallst.com/investing/2026/10/30/dell-sinks-11-as-intels-warning-on-pc-slump-and-memory-shortage-hits-hardware-stocks-hp-tumbles-9-hewlett-packard-enterprise-and-super-micro-fall-7/); Dell fell 11% on October 30 and Super Micro 7% [8]. Memory is an input cost for a business keeping 12 cents on the dollar [8].

## What the print decides

Three readings settle it: the December-quarter gross margin guide, any comment on neocloud funding, and backlog. The stock has averaged a 14.2% post-earnings move and finished lower after eight of the last 12 reports [8]. If lenders start pricing credit risk into the speed advantage, Dell and [Hewlett Packard Enterprise](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/hewlett-packard-enterprise) stand next in line for the orders. The racks sell themselves; the open question is who signs the loan.

## Takeaway

The report must hold the pre-announced $18.5–19.5 billion quarter and its 12.0–12.5% gross margin, and show that the neocloud customers financing their racks can still pay.
