# Tower Semiconductor guides to a $2.4 billion run rate as AI optics customers prepay through 2029

> Tower Semiconductor printed record Q3 results and guided a $2.4 billion annualized run rate, with silicon photonics customers prepaying cash for capacity through 2029. Lumentum's blowout already confirmed the foundry's version; Coherent's November 4 report is the last outside test.

The fear in AI optics this month is that orders are fading. [Tower Semiconductor](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/tower-semiconductor)'s third quarter, reported today, November 2, 2026, says the opposite: record revenue of $526 million, up 33% year over year, record gross profit up 92% to $179 million, and [a fourth-quarter guide of $600 million](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/11/02/3392999/0/en/tower-semiconductor-reports-third-quarter-record-results-providing-record-fourth-quarter-guidance-resulting-in-2026-2-billion-annual-revenue.html) that closes 2026 at $2 billion of annual revenue and a $2.4 billion annualized run rate [1].

## What is new since our last look

We have covered Tower's run before: [the stock's near-doubling this year on an AI photonics shipment with no disclosed volume](https://theinference.org/article/tower-semiconductor-is-up-99-97-this-year-on-an-ai-photonics-shipment-with-no-disclosed-volume) [2], and [the $290 million in prepaid 2027 orders it reported after the optics rout](https://theinference.org/article/tower-semiconductor-290-million-in-prepaid-2027-orders-after-the-optics-rout-q3-print-november-2) [3]. What is new today is the print itself.

The customers who pre-paid now sit inside reported numbers: nine-month operating cash flow of $872 million included a $305 million net increase in customer advances [1]. Cash paid years ahead of delivery is what capacity reservation looks like, and it is now on the balance sheet rather than in a headline.

## The silicon photonics engine, and who pays

The engine is silicon photonics, the optical chips that carry data between AI servers. Tower, an Israeli specialty foundry, targets a $1.1 billion annualized run rate for SiPho alone in the fourth quarter, five times its 2025 SiPho revenue, with customer contracts being extended through 2029 and the Japan 300mm buildout ahead of schedule, according to CEO Russell Ellwanger [1].

*Chart: **Tower's revenue has climbed for five straight quarters, guided to $600 million in Q4** Line of quarterly revenue in millions of dollars rising from $327 million in Q1 2024 to $526 million in Q3 2026, with a dashed estimate at $600 million for Q4 2026, and the last two points highlighted.*

*Tower Semiconductor quarterly revenue, millions of dollars, from its SEC filings; Q3 2026 and the Q4 2026 estimate of $600 million (midpoint of guidance, ±5%) are from the company's Q3 2026 earnings release, November 2, 2026. Q4 2026E is guidance, not reported. Sources: Tower Semiconductor SEC filings; Tower Q3 2026 earnings release. [1][6]*

The mechanism splits the chain cleanly. Hyperscalers and networking customers pay prepayments and multi-year contracts to lock wafer slots they cannot otherwise get; Tower converts that into 23% net margins and record profit [1]. The risk sits with the rest of the optical chain, the transceiver and component makers whose orders have not yet confirmed Tower's version, and who would absorb any 2027 unwind first [1]. That unwind is the open question no source settles.

## Coherent's print is the decision point

The outside tests are splitting Tower's way. [Lumentum](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/lumentum), the laser and transceiver maker, answered its half today: [fiscal first-quarter revenue of $1.263 billion, up more than 136% year over year](https://cryptobriefing.com/lumentum-q1-earnings-beat-ai-optics/), with next-quarter guidance to $1.625 billion and purchase commitments above $5 billion in co-packaged optics [4]. [Coherent](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/coherent), which has been doubling its laser capacity and is the bear case for scarcity, [reports November 4](https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/coherent-corp-announces-timing-of-fy2027-first-quarter-earnings-release-1036627327) [5].

That is the number to watch. If Coherent's book matches Tower's prepayments and Lumentum's commitments, October's sell-off priced sentiment, not demand. If it does not, Tower's five-times growth claim is the outlier that needs explaining.

## Takeaway

Tower's record Q3 and its $600 million Q4 guide put customers' cash where the demand story is, but whether Coherent's November 4 report confirms the same demand across the optical chain is the open test.
