# Tractian's $1.4 billion round prices physical AI at 14 times revenue

> Sapphire Ventures' $130 million Series D values Tractian at $1.4 billion, about 14 times the factory-sensor company's roughly $100 million annualized revenue, with Brazilian public money and a Nvidia chip order inside the funding story.

Igor Marinelli grew up watching his father keep paper-mill machines alive with tools he calls backwards, and [built Tractian to replace them](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/tractian) [1]. On October 22 the Atlanta company [raised a $130 million Series D at a $1.4 billion valuation](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/tractians-130m-series-d-values-the-company-at-1-4b-to-scale-physical-ai-for-asset-heavy-industries-302917313.html), led by Sapphire Ventures and co-led by Catalyst, the growth arm of the British insurer M&G, which invests from a £138 billion with-profits fund, the pooled pot of British policyholders' money, alongside the British Business Bank [1].

More than 2,000 critical facilities run its vibration and ultrasound sensors, including plants of [Eli Lilly](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/eli-lilly), Coca-Cola and Embraer [1], and [Brazilian reporting ranks it Latin America's most valuable AI startup](https://startups.com.br/negocios/rodada-de-investimento/tractian-levanta-us-130m-e-e-novo-unicornio-de-ia-made-in-brazil/), past the legal-AI firm Enter, marked at $1.2 billion in May [2].

## The math the release left out

A $1.4 billion mark on annualized revenue of roughly $100 million, about half of it earned in the United States, per Marinelli, works out to about 14 times sales [2]. The Information, which first reported the round, put the figure past $100 million last month [3].

Spread over more than 700 employees, that is roughly $143,000 of revenue per head [1][2]. [Forbes](https://www.forbes.com/companies/tractian/) counted 200 employees and a $205 million valuation in April 2024 [4]; [the December 2024 Series C, $120 million led by Sapphire](https://www.forbes.com/sites/jimvinoski/2024/12/05/industrial-copilot-tractian-raises-another-120-million/), valued the company near $650 million, with 400 staff and 100,000 sensors in the field [5][2].

*Chart: **Tractian's valuation has more than doubled in under two years** Bar chart of Tractian's valuation at three dates: a Forbes estimate of $205 million in April 2024, about $650 million at the December 2024 Series C, and $1.4 billion at the October 2026 Series D.*

*Valuation marks in US$ millions. April 2024 is a Forbes estimate; the December 2024 Series C was struck at R$4 billion and converted at the exchange rate of the time; October 2026 is the company's announced Series D valuation. [1][2][4]*

## Public money and Nvidia chips inside

Two facts the English-language wires dropped. In August 2026 [Tractian signed R$120.1 million from BNDES](https://www.baguete.com.br/noticias/tractian-levanta-r-1201-mi-com-bndes), Brazil's national development bank, to build robotic inspection assistants, a project running to June 2028 with plans to hire 421 people, 150 of them in research [6].

The Series D itself funds five years of R&D, part of it for training large language models and buying [Nvidia](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/nvidia) processors [2]. The demand case is the company's own citation: [Siemens pegs unplanned downtime at about 11% of revenue across the 500 largest industrial companies](https://www.verdict.co.uk/tractian-series-d-funding-round/), $1.4 trillion a year, on machines averaging 24 years old [1][7]; Deloitte projects 2.1 million unfilled US manufacturing jobs by 2030 [1].

## Revenue per head decides the next mark

The bull case is straightforward: Sapphire partner Anders Ranum says the platform "gets sharper with every machine it monitors" [1], and Marinelli expects cash generation before the end of 2027 [2]. Machine health already had a unicorn, Israel's Augury, which [crossed the line in 2021 on a $180 million Series E](https://www.augury.com/about/) and is still private, raising $75 million in a 2025 Series F [8].

Every mark in this trade so far is private: Augury, Enter, Tractian. None of the three lists, so on that record exposure runs through the named buyers, Eli Lilly to Embraer, and through Nvidia, whose processors this round buys [2].

The tell at the next mark is revenue per head. If it climbs toward software levels, Tractian has earned a software price. If it stays near $143,000, the investor who pays the next software multiple for an instrument maker is the one who loses.

## Takeaway

Tractian's $130 million Series D at $1.4 billion values the factory-sensor maker at about 14 times its roughly $100 million annualized revenue, so revenue per head, now near $143,000, is the number that decides whether it earns a software price.
