# Veeva sells AI flat, and IQVIA's seven-month clock starts the test

> Veeva priced Vault AI at 10 percent of a subscription with unlimited usage, betting model costs fall faster than adoption, while IQVIA's seven-month rollout puts a clock on the standardization it needs first.

[Veeva Systems](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/veeva-systems) put a price on AI this week, and the price is the point. [At its Boston summit on October 20 and 21](https://www.clinicaltrialvanguard.com/conference-coverage/why-pharmas-ai-future-depends-on-standardization-first/), the life-sciences software house said Vault AI, the agentic layer now live across its applications, will cost 10 percent of a Vault subscription, 5 percent in the first year, with unlimited usage [1]. Its CEO Peter Gassner quipped that no one ever moved the industry forward by counting tokens [1].

## The customer stops paying for tokens

Token-metered AI makes the customer carry the inference bill; a flat percentage makes Veeva carry it, for 750,000 people working in Vault on an average day and roughly 250,000 reports run daily [1]. The bet is that model costs fall faster than usage rises, on a business that has [held gross margin at about 75 percent for eight straight quarters](https://www.sec.gov/cgi-bin/browse-edgar?action=getcompany&CIK=0001393052) [1][2].

## Standardization with a clock on it

The other half of the summit was an order book. [IQVIA](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/iqvia), the world's largest contract research organization with about 94,000 staff, [will adopt four Veeva modules (CTMS, eTMF, Study Startup and Site Connect)](https://www.ad-hoc-news.de/boerse/news/nebenwerte/iqvia-holdings-aktie-iqvia-erweitert-veeva-partnerschaft-fuer-studien/70396232) [as its enterprise standard within seven months](https://theinference.org/article/after-eight-years-of-suing-veeva-iqvia-makes-it-the-enterprise-standard), with every new IQVIA study on the platform from the third quarter of 2027 [1][3].

Around 30,000 IQVIA staff will ultimately touch the software; IQVIA runs roughly 2,000 trials at any time [1]. Gassner's thesis is the shipping container: an industry that cannot standardize cannot automate. Falcon agents, which file documents and draft clinical study reports, work only on standardized data, which is why [Biogen](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/biogen) and IQVIA are standardizing first [1].

## What decides it

The market has priced in a lot: Veeva closed at $322.55 on October 22, [a 52-week high, up 44.5 percent this year](https://www.investing.com/news/company-news/veeva-systems-stock-hits-52week-high-at-32016-93CH-4960407), at 51.6 times trailing earnings against 23.0 for the S&P 500 [4][5]. [Third-quarter guidance of $932 million to $935 million](https://www.trefis.com/stock/veev/articles/620171/guidance-up-trend-intact-veeva-is-todays-double-confirmation-stock/2026-10-23) implies about 15 percent growth, slower than the 17.6 percent just posted, and deferred revenue slipped to $1.31 billion from $1.49 billion at January 31 [4][2]. Two dates test the bet: IQVIA reports on October 27, and Veeva holds its investor day on November 5 [3][4].

## Takeaway

Veeva priced Vault AI at a flat 10 percent of a subscription with unlimited usage, shifting the inference bill onto a gross margin that has held near 75 percent for eight quarters. IQVIA's seven-month standardization clock, and two dates in the next two weeks, will show whether the bet holds.
