# Workday's partners sell a calculator for its AI bill while its co-founder sells $18.6 million of stock

> At Workday Rising U.S. 2026, Platinum Partner Strada built a calculator so buyers can "estimate future AI consumption" on Workday's Flex Credit meter. Filings the same week show the co-founder and the CFO selling into a 66% six-month rally, both under pre-scheduled trading plans.

## A calculator for the vendor's own price list

Ahead of [Workday](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/workday) Rising U.S. 2026 at The Venetian Resort, [Strada](https://theinference.org/markets/companies/strada), a Workday Platinum Partner, [unveiled a Flex Credit Calculator](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/strada-unveils-aon-partnership-and-new-ai-powered-innovations-ahead-of-workday-rising-us-2026-302903421.html) and will demonstrate it at booth #C1 [1]. Strada built the tool with its Client Advisory Board on "the latest published Workday Flex Credit rate cards," so customers can "estimate future AI consumption" and "identify potential additional costs" [1]. Flex Credits are the entitlement Workday grants for AI use, and the calculator exists to find where projected consumption outruns that entitlement and the extra billing starts [1]. [One analyst tally puts Workday's AI book at $600 million of annual recurring revenue](https://seekingalpha.com/article/4950043-workday-flex-credits-and-valuation-are-undervalued), up 200% year over year [2].

When a partner has to build a calculator to read the vendor's own price list, the price list is the problem.

## The funnel is the back office

The calculator rode in on a three-day partner blitz. Strada and EY announced a global payroll alliance on October 7 [3]. [KPMG](https://kpmg.com/us/en/media/news/kpmg-advances-ai-powered-workforce-experiences-with-workday-and-google-cloud.html) went client-zero on Workday HCM on October 8, wiring Google Cloud's Gemini Enterprise into Workday Sana [4]. Strada and Aon paired on benefits on October 9 [1]. The target is the back office: Workday's Core Benefits already spans more than 3,000 employers and 22 million workers, and employers brace for a median 9% rise in health costs next year [5]. [Only 3% of 21 million U.S. finance and accounting workers sit in what JobZone Risk calls a structurally safe zone](https://finance.yahoo.com/technology/ai/articles/back-office-agent-wave-already-150242112.html) [6].

## The founder and the CFO sold on October 6

One day before that EY alliance, co-founder David Duffield converted 99,228 Class B shares to Class A and [sold every one, at $184.12 to $190.18, for $18.6 million, under a Rule 10b5-1 plan his trust adopted on December 2, 2025](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1327811/000093807126000065/0000938071-26-000065.txt) [7]. He still holds about 35.7 million shares, near $6.7 billion at $186.59, in a stock up about 66% in six months [8]. Chief Financial Officer Zane Rowe [sold 6,000 shares in five lots the same day, about $1.1 million at the filing's prices, under a plan adopted on March 7, 2025](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1327811/000144415826000020/0001444158-26-000020.txt) [9].

## Both sales were scheduled before the rally

The trading plans predate the run, and [Duffield's print trims well under 1% of his stake](https://theinference.org/article/workday-hands-out-free-ai-while-duffield-s-trust-sells-18-8m-at-a-time) [8]. Aneel Bhusri's return as chief executive, [which RBC says positions Workday to make more effective AI investments](https://finance.yahoo.com/technology/ai/articles/workday-ceo-aneel-bhusri-apos-151444217.html), frames the rally both men sold into [10]; the sell side still splits between Jefferies' $210 hold and Needham's $230 buy [8]. Stanford researchers find little aggregate U.S. job loss from AI so far; the squeeze arrives as consolidation and hiring freezes, not announcements [6].

*Chart: **Both sell-side targets sit 12% to 23% above the price the two insiders sold at** Column chart comparing Workday's share price of about $186.59 with Jefferies' $210 hold-equivalent price target and Needham's $230 buy-equivalent price target.*

*Workday fetched about $186.59 around the October 6 Form 4 sales; Jefferies' hold-equivalent target is $210 and Needham's buy-equivalent target is $230. Price targets are analyst projections, not market prices. Units: US dollars per share. Source: Billionaires.Africa [8]. [8]*

## What a buyer should demand first

Procurement should hold Workday to the standard its own partner already applied: the published rate card and a consumption ceiling written into the contract before any signature, since Strada treats entitlements and overages as the gap worth building a tool for [1]. Then watch two numbers: whether the calculator graduates from booth demo to standard procurement kit, and whether that $600 million AI book keeps compounding at triple digits [2].

## Takeaway

A partner built a calculator for Workday's Flex Credit meter because projected AI use outruns entitlements, and the same week the co-founder sold $18.6 million and the CFO $1.1 million of stock, both on trading plans adopted before the 66% rally.
