The share of US businesses that used AI in any of their business functions in the past two weeks, from the Census Bureau's Business Trends and Outlook Survey, every two weeks.
The register asks for production deployments at large firms; the survey asks all employer businesses whether they use AI at all, the closest measure published for the whole economy.
The Census Bureau changed the question on 17 November 2025, from AI "in producing goods or services" to "in any of its business functions", and the share rose by about seven points at once. The current wording is the index; the original wording is shown as its own line to September 2025. The two are never joined.
