CDW fell 11.8% on no company news; its November 4 report decides why
CDW's 11.8% one-day plunge came with no company news attached and twice the damage of any peer in IT distribution, three days before third-quarter results. Wednesday's print decides whether Friday was a crowded trade unwinding or the first crack in corporate tech budgets.

A fall twice the size of anyone else's
CDW−6.91% — CDW, down 6.91 percent today closed Friday at $145.65, down 11.8%, on 536,307 shares 1. Nothing came from the company: no earnings, no downgrade, no filing. AlphaStreet's verdict was "pure sector contagion" 1.
The Vernon Hills, Illinois company, worth $18.2 billion, resells hardware, software and cloud for business, government, education and healthcare customers in the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada 12, so its quarters double as a read on corporate tech budgets. The stock had closed Thursday at $165.20 3, a dollar under its 52-week high of $166.15 and up 20.0% for the month 4, after four sector-rally jumps of 5.8% or more between late August and October 1 1.
A market-wide rout, an outsized fall
The tape did the damage. The Nasdaq lost 747 points, or 2.9%, its worst day since June and its worst month since March 2025, after Amazon−1.20% — Amazon, down 1.20 percent today missed profit and sales estimates while holding 2026 capital spending at $220 billion, and Intel−29.36% — Intel, down 29.36 percent today guided current-quarter revenue to $15–16 billion against $17.1 billion expected, citing a PC slowdown it expects to run into 2027 56. That PC line lands on CDW, whose catalog is the corporate device fleet: computers, servers, networking and storage 3.
The fall was nearly double any peer's: Insight Enterprises lost 6.0%, Arrow Electronics−5.24% — Arrow Electronics, down 5.24 percent today 5.7%, TD Synnex 5.4% and Avnet−4.35% — Avnet, down 4.35 percent today 5.1% 1. Two things mark CDW out. Institutions hold 93.15% of its shares 3, and the average analyst target of $150.12, on a Moderate Buy rating, sat below Thursday's close before the rout began 37.
CDW fell nearly twice as hard as every IT-distribution peer on October 30

The arithmetic was set before the crash
Friday changed none of it. In August, CDW beat on both lines: $2.91 of earnings per share against $2.80 expected, on revenue of $6.57 billion, up 10.0% year over year 38. For Wednesday, consensus asks $6.19 billion of revenue and $2.98 of earnings per share 8; against the $5.737 billion CDW reported a year earlier 9, that implies about 7.9% growth, a step down from the second quarter's 10.0%.
Consensus for Q3 is $6.19B, implying about 7.9% growth against 10.0% in Q2

Wednesday decides it
The bull case is arithmetic too. GuruFocus puts the stock 28.7% below its fair-value estimate of $215.83, at 18.5 times trailing earnings against a five-year median of 23.4, and 12.7 times forward estimates 4. BlackRock−2.44% — BlackRock, down 2.44 percent today Portfolio Management filed a Schedule 13G on October 27 for 5.9% of the company, 7,321,055 shares 10. The bear case is five years of 3.6% annual revenue growth, with about 4% projected over the next twelve months 11; CDW's own AI answer, the Lovelytics data-analytics acquisition closed on September 25, has not yet appeared in a quarterly report 11.
Results land on Wednesday, November 4, webcast at 8:30 a.m 2. ET 2. "The market has no tolerance now for misses on top/bottom line guidance, regardless of the reason," Bob Lang of Explosive Options told NTD on Friday 5. The fall priced a warning about corporate IT budgets; on Wednesday, CDW either confirms it or hands the money back.
