Raytheon radar and a Qatar deal land on Shield AI's unflown $12.7 billion X-BAT

Raytheon will build the radar and electronic warfare for Shield AI's X-BAT, and a Rheinmetall joint venture will take its Hivemind software to Qatari naval drones. Both arrived within 48 hours for a $12.7 billion valuation that still waits on the aircraft's first flight.

Two signatures in 48 hours

Shield AI$13.77B — Shield AI, private, latest valuation $13.77B spent the week collecting other people's logos. On October 27, Raytheon's Advanced Technology arm, part of the NYSE-listed RTX, agreed to supply the radar and electronic warfare systems for the X-BAT, Shield AI's autonomous, vertical-takeoff combat aircraft 1.

A day later at the Milipol Qatar show, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with RBAT, the joint venture between Germany's Rheinmetall and Qatar's Barzan Holdings, to explore running its Hivemind autonomy software on Qatari unmanned surface vessels 2. Hivemind, the software both deals point at, has already piloted more than 40 platforms, from F-16 fighters to a satellite in low Earth orbit 2.

What the logos lean on

The endorsements land on a $12.7 billion valuation from a $2 billion March raise 3, part of the venture wave that doubled Mach Industries to $3.7 billion. President and co-founder Ryan Tseng projects a fully missionized X-BAT at about $30 million apiece, a tenth of an F-35's life-cycle cost, at 150 aircraft a year; those are company targets, not orders 4.

US Navy commitments behind the jet total $400 million, counting a $150 million award matched dollar-for-dollar by Shield AI 5. What delivers revenue today is the smaller, combat-proven V-BAT: Taiwan alone is due 280 of them by 2029, with 150 in service by the end of 2027 6.

Validation without an invoice

Neither new deal carries a number. The Raytheon terms are undisclosed 1, and the Qatar memorandum states no value 2. Both names landed in a week when the X-BAT still has not performed its defining maneuver, taking off vertically: the first full-scale prototype was due around the end of October, with flight testing slated for late 2026 in Kansas 75. Believers read the primes as diligence done on their behalf; skeptics count two unsigned-price deals and one unflown jet.

Shield AI's $12.7B mark runs a distant second to Anduril's $61B

The gate in Kansas

The tell is scheduled, not promised. New Zealand's polar patrol tender closes on November 8, names a preferred bidder in late January and signs in early May 2027, with Shield AI weighing a V-BAT bid 8. The X-BAT's first flight, targeted since the GE F110 engine choice in late 2025 9, is the gate that reprices everything behind it. Until it opens, the only marks moving are private ones.
