Talen's 1,920 MW Amazon headline meets a 240 MW floor on November 3

Talen reports Q3 on November 3, the first print where a disclosed AWS volume could join the record: a 1,920 MW nuclear headline against a contractual 2026 floor of 240 MW.

Talen Energy's+3.40% — Talen Energy, up 3.40 percent today Amazon−0.08% — Amazon, down 0.08 percent today contract is quoted everywhere at its full ceiling: 1,920 megawatts of nuclear power from the Susquehanna plant in Pennsylvania to the adjacent AWS data center campus 1. The ceiling is not the schedule. A filing-read published October 19 traces Talen's own disclosures and finds a staged contract whose disclosed 2026 volume runs 240 to 960 MW, with no metered AWS-specific delivery anywhere in the public record 1.

The documents show a staged contract, not a meter

The three steps are visible in the filings. The 2024 agreement allowed up to 960 MW 1. A June 2025 amendment doubled the eventual quantity to 1,920 MW, with the full level to be reached no later than 2032 1.

A September 2025 company presentation then set minimum-to-maximum contractual volumes at 240–960 MW in 2026, rising to 1,680–1,920 MW by 2032 1. A second clock hides in the grid connection: in November 2024, FERC rejected a proposal to raise Susquehanna's co-located load from 300 to 480 MW, and the campus moved to a front-of-the-meter structure only in April 2026, per Talen's Q2 10-Q 1.

Bulls price the ceiling, the filings carry a floor

Wall Street is pricing the headline. Goldman Sachs+1.71% — Goldman Sachs, up 1.71 percent today rates Talen a Buy with a $509 target, calling it the most direct exposure to rising PJM power prices; consensus sits at $463 against a stock that opened at $354.81 on October 16 2. The company has leaned in with a $3.0 billion buyback through 2028, a $1.5 billion accelerated repurchase, and a new CEO, Terry Nutt, from January 2027 3. The complication is the last print: a $2.00-per-share loss against a $3.21 estimate, even as revenue of $959 million beat expectations 2.

The counterpoint is real: the revised grid structure removes a genuine impediment, and AWS holds a contractual route to accelerate volumes 1. But FERC itself rejected a PJM plan that would have credited data centers with "power that does not actually exist" 4. On November 3, Talen reports Q3, the first print where a customer-specific AWS volume could join the record 1. Until one does, investors are paying a ceiling price for a minimum schedule 1.
