China put an AI compute node in orbit, and its backers are on US blacklists
A satellite launched on 20 September 2026 runs AI on Earth-observation imagery in orbit, in a program reported to unite Zhipu AI and SenseTime, two firms the US sanctioned to contain. Export controls do not reach a sun-synchronous orbit.
