Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Fidelity Investments
Abigail Johnson is chairman and chief executive officer of Fidelity Investments, the Boston fund and brokerage firm her grandfather founded in 1946.
Johnson joined Fidelity in 1988 as an analyst and portfolio manager after an MBA at Harvard Business School. She became president of Fidelity's asset management business in 2001, head of its retail, workplace and institutional businesses in 2005, president of the company in 2012, chief executive in 2014 and chairman in 2016. Her father, Edward Johnson III, ran the firm before her; her grandfather, Edward C. Johnson II, founded it.
In 2018 Fidelity began letting institutional investors trade bitcoin and ether through Fidelity Digital Assets, and it later launched the Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund. The firm has also put more weight on financial advice, brokerage and venture investing alongside its mutual funds.
Fidelity's SEC filings describe her as a director, the chairman and the chief executive of FMR LLC, the parent company. Members of the Johnson family, including her, are the main owners of FMR's Series B voting shares, which carry 49% of the voting power, and under a shareholders' voting agreement the family may be deemed a controlling group. FMR's 13F report for June 30, 2026 listed $2.30 trillion of U.S.-listed securities.
