Executive Chairman and Co-Chief Investment Officer, Fisher Investments
Ken Fisher founded Fisher Investments in 1979 and is its executive chairman and co-chief investment officer.
Kenneth Lawrence Fisher was born in San Francisco in 1950, the son of the stock investor Philip A. Fisher, and grew up in San Mateo, California. He studied forestry at Humboldt State, now Cal Poly Humboldt, and graduated with an associate degree in economics in 1972.
He started Fisher Investments in 1979 with $250, incorporated it in 1986 and ran it as chief executive until July 2016, when long-time employee Damian Ornani succeeded him. The firm's Form ADV lists Fisher as executive chairman, chairman of the board of managers, co-chief investment officer and a member of the investment policy committee. In June 2024 the firm agreed to sell a minority stake to Advent International and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority in a deal that valued it at about $13 billion; the sale completed in early 2025, and Fisher kept majority ownership and more than 70% of the voting shares.
Fisher wrote the Forbes "Portfolio Strategy" column from 1984 to 2017 and has written eleven books on investing, starting with Super Stocks (1984), which set out his work on the price-to-sales ratio. His columns now run in the New York Post and in outlets in other countries.
