Martin Romo is chair and chief investment officer of Capital Group and an equity portfolio manager, overseeing the investment process behind the American Funds.
Capital Group's board elected Romo chairman and chief investment officer in October 2023, alongside Mike Gitlin as president and chief executive. As CIO he oversees The Capital System, the firm's investment process, and the work of its investment professionals.
Romo has spent his whole career of about 33 years at Capital Group. He started as an equity investment analyst covering the global chemicals industry, mortgage and consumer financials, and selected conglomerates, before becoming a portfolio manager. He is also president of Capital Research Company, Inc. and a member of the Capital Group Management Committee.
He signs the 13F reports of Capital Research Global Investors, one of the firm's equity divisions, as a partner. He holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley, and is based in San Francisco.
