Salim Ramji is the chief executive officer of Vanguard, the Malvern, Pennsylvania fund company, a post he has held since July 2024.
Vanguard's board named Ramji chief executive and a director in May 2024, effective July 8, 2024. He succeeded Tim Buckley, who retired as chairman and chief executive; Mark Loughridge, the lead independent director, became non-executive chairman at the same time.
Ramji came from BlackRock, where he spent about a decade before leaving in January 2024. His last role there was global head of iShares and index investments; earlier he ran BlackRock's U.S. wealth advisory business and was its global head of corporate strategy. Before BlackRock he was a senior partner at McKinsey & Company, where he led the asset and wealth management practice, and he began his career as a lawyer at Clifford Chance in London and Hong Kong.
As chief executive he certifies the shareholder reports of Vanguard's funds; a September 2026 report for Vanguard Specialized Funds carries his signature. In January 2026 Vanguard said it had finished moving its U.S. fund management into two wholly owned advisers, Vanguard Capital Management and Vanguard Portfolio Management, and each now files its own quarterly 13F holdings report.
