Amazon gave Prime's restaurant seat to Uber Eats; DoorDash fell 14% and put DashPass in Lyft's $9.99 plan

Amazon made Uber Eats Prime's restaurant partner and DoorDash fell about 14%; hours later Lyft began selling DashPass inside a $9.99 membership. One funnel war over rented front doors, and the selloff prices a lost door, not lost share.

Amazon chief executive Andy Jassy with a delivery associate and an Amazon Now delivery bag in Mumbai in June 2026. This week his company handed Prime's restaurant delivery seat to Uber Eats.

Amazon−0.84% — Amazon, down 0.84 percent today handed Prime's restaurant seat to Uber Eats0.00% — Uber Eats, unchanged today this morning, and DoorDash−8.38% — DoorDash, down 8.38 percent as of its last quote fell about 14% in a market down nearly 4% 12. Hours later Lyft−8.07% — Lyft, down 8.07 percent as of its last quote opened a front door of its own: a $9.99-a-month membership with DoorDash's DashPass inside 3. This is one funnel war, fought over doors neither combatant owns, and the selloff prices a lost door, not lost share.

Uber rented Amazon's door; DoorDash rented Lyft's

Prime members now order Uber Eats inside Amazon, with no Uber account and no delivery fee on orders above $25, and Grubhub, the delivery app that has held the Prime perk since 2022, is out 4. Amazon handles the login, the payment and the delivery alerts, with Uber Eats sending only the final confirmation, which keeps the customer relationship inside Amazon 5. Uber will not say what it pays for the seat 5.

DoorDash answered within hours. Lyft Go, at $9.99 a month, carries DashPass, DoorDash's fee-waiving membership, which Lyft values at $120 a year on its own, plus credits worth 8% of every ride, spendable on rides or DoorDash orders 3. Lyft lends its app to DoorDash's subscription; DoorDash lends its membership to Lyft's funnel. Lyft still fell about 5% on the day 6.

Both deals buy the same thing: someone else's front door.

A Prime perk has never moved share

Free Grubhub+ has been a Prime benefit since 2022, and DoorDash still took 59% of US delivery-app spending last quarter, against 18% for Uber Eats 1. Order value grew 36%, or 23% once Deliveroo, the European delivery app DoorDash has folded into its results, is set aside 7. The prize both bundles chase is Uber One, Uber's own membership: 55 million members, more than half of Uber's gross bookings 6. Uber's delivery bookings of $28.5 billion last quarter set the bar 8.

The balance sheet is the constraint, not the Prime seat

DoorDash agreed last week to buy Instacart, the grocery-delivery company, for about $17 billion, a deal Uber had walked away from 57. At least three-quarters of the price is cash, against $6.8 billion on hand at the end of September and a JPMorgan bridge loan behind the rest 17. The election rates were fixed at signing, so a cheaper share does not enlarge the cash bill; what it likely tightens is carrying that debt while the funnel war runs 7.

Twenty-eight times forward, with February the first count

Before the drop, DoorDash traded at 28 times forward earnings against a three-year average of 39 1. The first hard count of the Amazon door comes with Uber's early-February report 1. Until then the investor question splits in two: whether DashPass-inside-Lyft replaces the restaurant orders Prime just took, and whether Lyft's conversion of riders into members is the cheaper way to own the same funnel. On the numbers published today, DoorDash has not lost that race.
