AMD bought Fei-Fei Li's World Labs for $8.2 billion in stock as data center sales jumped 97%

AMD's Q3 filing named Fei-Fei Li's World Labs inside a results release, $8.2 billion in stock, on the day the inference layer that serves the lab marked at $16 billion on $800 million of revenue. The margin, fal's founder says, sits with compute.

Fei-Fei Li and Lisa Su sign the agreement that takes World Labs into AMD for $8.2 billion in stock

Two documents landed on November 3, 2026, and priced two different layers of the AI stack 1. AMD's−0.70% — AMD, down 0.70 percent today quarterly 8-K named its $8.2 billion all-stock purchase of World Labs$1B — World Labs, private, latest valuation $1B, Fei-Fei Li's spatial-intelligence lab, inside a results release that also carried a record quarter: revenue of $13.38 billion, up 45%, and Data Center sales of $8.55 billion, up 97% 1.

The same day, fal~$1B — fal, private, latest valuation ~$1B, the inference platform that serves image and video models, raised $1.3 billion at a $16 billion valuation, about twenty times its $800 million of annualized revenue, with Nvidia−2.65% — Nvidia, down 2.65 percent today taking a strategic stake 2.

The bought lab is a customer of the layer that printed

Bessemer, which led fal's Series F, lists World Labs among the companies that have moved production volume to fal, alongside Adobe+1.32% — Adobe, up 1.32 percent today, Canva, Shopify+7.42% — Shopify, up 7.42 percent today and Amazon+6.99% — Amazon, up 6.99 percent today 3. So the chipmaker paid fifteen times its own quarterly free cash flow ($554 million, down 64% from the second quarter as inventory built toward the Q4 ramp 1) for the model layer of a stack whose serving layer was marking near $16 billion while AMD signed. Marble, World Labs' first product, charges pennies per output: $5 for a refined 3D splat, 50 cents for a draft 4.

Where the margin sits, by the founders who sell both

fal's chief executive Burkay Gür says the early consensus has reversed: margins in the application layer sit near zero, and "you can only create margin if you are in the compute path" 5. Nvidia collects on both sides of this trade, holding a stake in fal and selling the GPUs beneath it, and it paid $13 billion for Hugging Face, the model platform World Labs is now positioned against 6. Fireworks AI~$1.1B — Fireworks AI, private, latest valuation ~$1.1B marked at $17.5 billion in July 2.

AMD holders should price the $8.2 billion as a roadmap purchase, not a revenue line; no source attaches revenue to World Labs, and whether its models keep running on rival silicon after close is unpriced 7. That is the fair counterpoint: AMD's quarter was real, the stock rose 8% after hours, and the Q4 guide of $17 billion implies 66% growth 7.

Both deals close by the end of 2026, with Li joining as chief scientist reporting to Lisa Su 8. What to watch: whether World Labs' serving bill stays on fal, and on whose GPUs. Our October 28 piece priced this deal at $117 million a head; the new facts since are the filing itself, Li's seat, and fal's customer list naming the lab 8.
