Aurora Innovation cut 2026 revenue guidance to $9 million after a six-week delay in truck production
Q3 revenue was $3 million against a $257 million operating loss, fourth-quarter cash use is guided to about $250 million, and the 500-truck customer deal anchoring the growth story is still a memorandum rather than a contract.

Aurora Innovation−0.12% — Aurora Innovation, down 0.12 percent today, the Pittsburgh autonomous-trucking company behind the Aurora Driver system, reported third-quarter revenue of $3 million on October 28 against an operating loss of $257 million 1. The number that moved the stock was timing: production of new driverless trucks at the Roush assembly line in Livonia, Michigan ran about six weeks late on material shortages, component quality problems and failures in final testing 1.
Aurora cut its 2026 revenue outlook to approximately $9 million 1. The shares closed at $5.09 on October 28 and traded near $4.21 by October 30 23. This print was previewed here on October 26; since then the numbers have moved, the thesis has not 23.
The burn accelerates as the trucks arrive
Aurora used about $170 million of operating cash in the quarter and told investors to expect roughly $250 million in the fourth quarter, when it buys hardware kits, components and extra production capacity 1. The pattern is now eight quarters long: quarterly cash use has climbed from about $142 million in early 2025 to $225 million in the second quarter of this year, while quarterly revenue moved from $1 million to $3 million 4.
Cash and short-term investments stood at more than $1 billion, topped up in the quarter by 6 million Class A shares sold under an at-the-market program for $41 million net 1. Chief Financial Officer David Maday told Bloomberg News the company may raise more through a credit line or share sales, and targets positive cash flow in 2028 5.

The pipeline is memorandums, not contracts
Fleets eventually pay per-mile Driver-as-a-Service fees, and Aurora says its first 200 trucks are fully contracted 1. Beyond that sits paper with a different weight: memorandums of understanding covering 1,000 service trucks across 2027 and 2028, including 500 with Charger Logistics for the Dallas to Laredo route, with deliveries in 2027 and 2028 and a stream Urmson sizes in the hundreds of millions of dollars 1.
Maday said pricing, volume and allocation are aligned, but the definitive agreements are not signed yet; truck service, end-of-life disposal and second-life use remain under discussion 1. Volvo Autonomous Solutions separately plans more than 300 Aurora-equipped driverless trucks in 2027 1.
Meanwhile a rival converted its own paper. Kodiak AI, which fits existing trucks with its Kodiak Driver, announced that DTL Transport, a produce hauler for major grocers, will put autonomous trucks on Dallas to El Paso and Dallas to Atlanta routes as soon as 2028, the first commitment by an interstate trucking company to fold autonomous trucks into its commercial fleet 6.
Targets span $6 to $16, so the fight is execution
Goldman Sachs−3.64% — Goldman Sachs, down 3.64 percent today cut its price target to $6 from $7 and held Neutral, implying 17.9% upside from the $5.09 close 2. Needham maintained Buy at $10 after trimming its target on valuation 27, Cantor Fitzgerald kept Overweight at $11 and Oppenheimer Outperform at $16 2. A spread nearly three times the share price points to a disagreement about whether the ramp happens, not whether driverless freight is real 2.

Two dated tests settle it. The Roush line is supposed to hit 20 trucks a week in early December, and the memorandums are supposed to convert into signed agreements ahead of 2027 deliveries 1. Watch both.
