Chip design software grew 12.2% in Q2. Silvaco, whose CEO read the numbers, guides down 8.5%

The ESD Alliance's Q2 2026 report shows design-software revenue up 12.2%, with its spokesman, Silvaco CEO Wally Rhines, hailing the growth. His own company's quarter is modeled down 8.5%, and the Nov 4 print decides whether the AI story converts.

Wally Rhines, chief executive of Silvaco Group and the ESD Alliance's executive sponsor. He read out the alliance's Q2 2026 numbers on October 19 with his own company guided down 8.5% for the September quarter.

Wally Rhines stood before the industry's numbers on October 19, 2026, and read out a good year 1. The Electronic System Design Alliance, a SEMI coalition of design-software vendors, reported that electronic design automation revenue hit $5,710.8 million in Q2 2026, up 12.2% year over year 1. Rhines is the alliance's executive sponsor. He is also chief executive of Silvaco Group+7.52% — Silvaco Group, up 7.52 percent today (Nasdaq: SVCO), a $223 million seller of TCAD software, tools that simulate the physics of a chip before a fab builds it 4.

The market is growing. Silvaco is not.

The complication sits in the alliance's own data. The fastest-growing categories are exactly where Silvaco sells: semiconductor IP up 20.4% to $2,199.0 million, IC physical design and verification up 16.6% to $818.3 million, services up 25.1% to $251.7 million 1. Yet six analysts on average model Silvaco's September quarter, which closed September 30, at $17.1 million of revenue, down 8.52% from $18.7 million a year ago, against earnings per share of one cent 2. That matches the company's own guide of $17 million plus or minus 10% 3.

The gap has a history. Silvaco's Q2 looked like +48% growth only against a weak $12.0 million base; across four quarters revenue has bumped along in a $17-19 million band while GAAP losses ran $3.7 million in the quarter and cash stood at $13 million 3. The AI digital-twin story, an NVIDIA+0.94% — NVIDIA, up 0.94 percent today partnership, a Dassault SIMULIA tie-up and a $10 million convertible note from customer Micron+3.15% — Micron, up 3.15 percent today signed August 5 at 8% interest, converting in 2028, has outrun the income statement 36.

Silvaco Group quarterly revenue and GAAP net income, US$ millions, calendar Q3 2024 through Q2 2026, from its SEC filings. The Q3 2025 peak of $18.67 million is the mark management's record-quarter pledge has to beat.7

What the bulls say, and the test

The bulls are not hiding. Five analysts carry a "Moderate Buy" with a $12.67 average target against a $6.58 price, Rosenblatt at $14; even a Weiss "sell" leaves sentiment constructive 4. They are betting a $292 million pipeline converts, and management has pledged a record Q4 above the $18.7 million peak 3.

Micron's note, meanwhile, puts the customer on both sides of the table: buyer and lender, with dilution terms still unknown 6. On November 4, the pledge gets its first reading 6. A record means conversion. Anything else means the narrative was the product.
