GE Vernova's gas customers put 25% down, so its October 28 order line, not Meta's financing, is the test
The market read Meta's financing strains as a threat to GE Vernova's order book. It missed that customers bank a 25% deposit when they reserve a turbine slot, so October 28's order line, not the deposit, is the only number that matters.

The market just knocked about $26 billion off GE Vernova−1.62% — GE Vernova, down 1.62 percent today in a day because Meta's−1.36% — Meta, down 1.36 percent today earnings raised a financing question 1. That is the wrong worry to attach to this company. GE Vernova's gas customers put roughly 25% down when they reserve a turbine slot, so the money is banked before a plant is built: second-quarter cash from operations reached $5.49 billion against a consensus estimate near $1.55 billion 1. A buyer who cancels leaves the deposit behind.
The risk here is not funding, it is demand timing, and October 28 delivers the one number that tests it.
The deposits make the financing squeeze someone else's problem
Huang priced a gigawatt of AI factory at about $50 billion all-in, most of it land, power and cooling around the chips, and said a three-month delay costs about $10 billion 4. At that price, nobody building for Meta, SpaceX+1.86% — SpaceX, up 1.86 percent today or a neocloud walks away from a turbine reservation to save the down payment. They walk away from the delay.
Musk said it himself on the SpaceX call: power and cooling, not chips, limit AI deployment 4. GE Vernova sells the scarcest link in that chain, and its customers prepay for the privilege of queue position. That is why the sell-off mispriced the supplier while the buyers issued stock to keep building. Meta reported negative free cash flow and created non-voting shares partly to raise capital 14. The company writing the checks had to finance; the company cashing them holds customers' money.

Watch the order line, not the deposit story
The test is the order line on October 28 12. BofA−0.88% — BofA, down 0.88 percent today expects $21.0 billion of orders against $22.2 billion consensus, and its 13 gigawatts of "gas contracts" counts slot reservations, not firm orders 12. At or above that bar, with cash again ahead of earnings, the deposits are being honored and the fear was noise.
Below it is the first company-reported evidence that AI buyers are walking, and at 27 times forward earnings against an industry near 17, the stock would be priced for demand it no longer has 3. Watch the order line, not the deposit story.
