Microsoft supplier IREN tripled AI cloud revenue to $200 million; its $4 billion target slips to January
AI Cloud revenue tripled sequentially to $200 million and the backlog stands at $20.3 billion, yet the $4 billion run-rate target slipped to January or February. The build converts on schedule; the calendar and the uncommitted $6 billion are the open questions.

IREN+18.69% — IREN, up 18.69 percent today filed its first quarter as a Microsoft supplier tonight, and the document answers both camps at once. The bears who spent two days reading satellite imagery of an unfinished Texas data hall got their confirmation: the company's more-than-$4 billion run-rate target, promised for year-end, has moved to January 2027 and may stretch to February, after a customer-requested design change and supplier timing 1.
The bulls got something bigger: AI Cloud revenue of $200 million for the quarter ended September 30, nearly triple the prior quarter's $71 million, with an 86 percent segment gross margin 1.

From a construction story to a billing story
The revenue line matters because it is the first hop of the chain proven in cash, not in renderings. Contracted compute actually went into service: Horizon 1 was delivered to Microsoft−0.78% — Microsoft, down 0.78 percent today during the quarter and earned NVIDIA+4.05% — NVIDIA, up 4.05 percent today Exemplar status on its GB300 systems 1. What was a construction story three months ago is now a billing story. Total revenue reached $228 million, up two-thirds sequentially, while bitcoin mining shrank to $28 million; this is now an AI infrastructure company that happens to own a shrinking mining tail 1.

Demand is not the bottleneck; the calendar and the money are
The backlog grew to $20.3 billion, two-thirds of it owed by investment-grade counterparties, and pricing on new deals keeps rising 1. Post-quarter, IREN signed a five-year contract at about $22 million per megawatt with 90 percent of the GPU capex prepaid by the customer, and a short-term deal at $40 million per megawatt 1.
When a customer prepays the hardware, it is telling you it fears scarcity, not oversupply.
The bottleneck is the one the audit flagged: converting construction into accepted capacity, and paying for it. Horizon 2 through 4 are in late-stage construction 1, and the remaining fiscal-2027 capex is $15 billion, of which $9 billion is covered by cash and committed financing 1.

January is the verdict
The other $6 billion depends on market conditions 1, and the 10-Q filed the same night carries a new note purchase agreement and a guaranty 2, evidence the company is raising that money while lenders repriced exactly such paper this week. Watch whether the January delivery holds. If it does, the bears' timeline argument dies; if it slips again, the financing gap, not the contracts, becomes the story. The builder who gets these halls accepted on schedule is the one earning the value here, and tonight's filing says IREN is closer to being that builder than the satellite photos suggested.
