DeepSeek is a Chinese AI laboratory whose open models have gained rapid adoption among developers. On OpenRouter's platform, DeepSeek's share of token usage rose from 9% in January to 18% in June 2026, part of a shift in which Chinese models overtook American models in token share on the platform.
