Western Digital is a leading maker of nearline hard disk drives for cloud and AI data centers, having separated its NAND flash business (Sandisk) in February 2025. It is extending energy-assisted perpendicular magnetic recording (ePMR) to 40TB drives while preparing its own HAMR transition, with 44TB HAMR shipments targeted for the first half of 2027. Its fiscal fourth-quarter 2026 revenue rose 44% year over year and GAAP gross margin reached 54.1%.
