McBee studied finance at the University of Colorado Boulder's Leeds School of Business and traded commodities for nearly a decade, including as a proprietary trader at Active Power Investments. In 2017 he co-founded CoreWeave with Brian Venturo and Michael Intrator. It began as a crypto firm before turning into a cloud provider for AI computing.
CoreWeave went public in 2025 at a valuation of about $23 billion, according to Forbes. Its biggest customers are Microsoft, Meta and OpenAI, and in 2025 it signed a $14 billion deal to supply Meta with computing power until 2031. McBee, who is based in Bozeman, Montana, is its chief development officer.
McBee has described CoreWeave's financing as a "major unlock," and the company says lenders are willing to underwrite the risk that customer contracts will not be renewed. He has also sold stock: The Inference reported that he sold $4.96 million on the same day CoreWeave's finance and revenue chiefs sold shares, before a 15.46% drop.
