Sotomayor is based in Eindhoven, in the Netherlands, and runs NXP Semiconductors as president and chief executive, according to Crunchbase. He previously worked at Broadcom as a vice president of marketing, and attended Harvard Business School. At NXP he has recast the chipmaker's pitch: he calls it a physical AI company with automotive as its biggest market, and he has corrected an analyst who described his acquisitions as bets on cars.
His largest move so far is manufacturing. On September 28, 2026, Sotomayor opened VSMC, a $7.8 billion 300mm fab in Tampines, Singapore, built as a joint venture with TSMC-backed Vanguard International Semiconductor. It is NXP's largest investment since the Freescale deal in 2015. He calls the plant part of a "hybrid manufacturing strategy" for "intelligent edge and Physical AI systems." The Inference reported that Citi cut its rating on NXP for missing the AI data center shortly afterward, even as the fab opened fully booked.
