Coca-Cola's decision landed on Omnicom's−0.30% — Omnicom, down 0.30 percent today earnings call the same day. WPP keeps the soda giant's global media account, won in 2020 at a reported $4 billion, minus North America, Japan and South Korea 123. Omnicom, the advertising holding company, takes the North America business after beating Dentsu, effective December 1 123. The prize is an estimated $800 million account, per MediaPost 4.
The stake: the biggest name in marketing switched hands in a week
The pitch only existed because Publicis resigned Coke's North America media in 2025, then walked away from the global review after taking rival PepsiCo's−2.86% — PepsiCo, down 2.86 percent today global media business 25. PepsiCo had been an Omnicom client for decades, lost without a pitch 2. The musical chairs left Omnicom paying for its old client's defeat with Coke's biggest market.
The same day, the harder question arrived
On Thursday's Q3 call, SSR analyst Tim Nolan asked the existential version: if AI agents can plan and buy media, who needs a holding company 1? Walled gardens and independent ad tech firms are building end-to-end platforms that do what agencies used to do 1.
CFO Phil Angelastro said market complexity makes Omnicom "more central." CTO Paolo Yuvienco pointed to Omni, the company's AI platform, which "orchestrates that complexity on behalf of our clients." He did not say how Omni beats the end-to-end rivals Nolan described 1.
53% of core revenue sits in the blast radius
Integrated media, media, commerce, data, CRM, consulting and content automation, made up 53% of Omnicom's $6 billion in core revenue in Q3 and grew more than 10% organically 14. It is exactly the work agents are being built to take 14. Core revenue rose 7.2% organically; the US, 60% of it, grew 10% 1. CEO John Wren flagged that the World Cup and midterms boosted both, and neither repeats in 2027 1. Creative advertising fell mid-single digits 4.

The counterpoint: the market voted Thursday
Investors liked the quarter and the Coke win: Omnicom shares rose 2.5% and added 3% after hours 4. Wren says Omnicom is gaining share and has the cash to keep investing, with more M&A once the $3.6 billion disposal program wraps by year end 14. The AI threat is real but unbilled; the PepsiCo-for-Coke swap is booked now.
Watch December 1, when the new structure takes effect, and whether Coke's North America team builds on Omnicom's Omni stack or negotiates its toll down. The agent question returns with every renewal.
