Lovable's 70 million apps run on Cloudflare, and Cloudflare's margin pays for them

The Swedish vibe-coding platform put 70 million AI-generated apps on Cloudflare Workers, but every one runs inside Cloudflare's 128MB memory ceiling while Cloudflare's gross margin slides. Both companies report their own numbers, and the November 5 margin reading tests whether this traffic pays.

Cloudflare co-founder and chief executive Matthew Prince at TechCrunch Disrupt Berlin in 2019. The company reports fiscal Q3 gross margin on November 5.

At Cloudflare+0.69% — Cloudflare, up 0.69 percent today Connect in San Francisco this month, Fabian Hedin, co-founder and chief technology officer of the Swedish app-building platform Lovable~$1.8B — Lovable, private, latest valuation ~$1.8B, disclosed that users have created 70 million AI-generated applications, and that the platform's own site draws 42 million monthly unique visitors 1. Since May 13 every new Lovable project publishes as a Cloudflare Worker 1. In August Lovable moved lovable.dev itself, roughly 400 routes and 900,000 lines of code, off Next.js on Vercel and onto TanStack Start on Workers 1. The median time to first byte fell 49%, per Lovable's own figures 1.

The receipts: self-reported revenue, real valuation

None of Lovable's growth numbers are audited, and the trend is the point. The company says annual recurring revenue stood at about $1 million fourteen months before January 2026, reached $300 million in January, and passed $600 million annualized by September, up from roughly $500 million in June 235. That financed a $400 million round in August at a $13.3 billion valuation, double December's $6.6 billion mark, with staff at two-thirds of Fortune 500 companies using the product, per Hedin 2.

The complication: a 128MB ceiling

Workers cap each isolate at 128MB of memory 1. To fit, Lovable stripped the TypeScript compiler, Prettier and its syntax highlighter from the server bundle, about 9MB of code and 18MB of memory per worker 1. When a static JSON file pushed the dashboard rollout past the limit, the error rate jumped from 0.1% to roughly 50% for 11 minutes 1. If AI-built apps outgrow that ceiling, builders move to containers, and Cloudflare keeps only the network.

The money: who carries the traffic

Cloudflare named Workers growth the first driver of fiscal Q2's 36% revenue growth, but gross margin fell to 73% from 76.1% as paid traffic pushes network cost into cost of revenue 4. Management told investors gross margin is the figure to watch in the Q3 report on November 5, 2026 4.

Lovable's revenue is credits sold at $25 or $50 a month, spent building apps that then run as traffic on Cloudflare's network and its bill 16. Gartner's edge report this week frames the same contest as who maximizes "network compute yield" rather than selling commoditised compute 6. Both sides of that trade report their own numbers, and neither set is audited.

The verdict watch

Watch November 5: Cloudflare's fiscal Q3 gross margin is the reading that shows whether traffic like Lovable's is monetisable at scale or running through the network at a discount 4.
