Paylocity's $30 million guidance raise is half interest income on client payroll cash

Paylocity beat the quarter and raised its year, but $15 million of the $30 million raise is a rate call on client payroll money, while headcount, the engine behind both its revenue and its float income, grew only modestly.

Paylocity+4.78% — Paylocity, up 4.78 percent today, the Schaumburg, Illinois payroll and HR software firm, filed its fiscal first-quarter results with the SEC on November 5, 2026, after the close: total revenue of $451.7 million, up 10.7%, recurring revenue up 12.0% to $424.5 million, and a full-year revenue guide raised by $30 million 1. Several screens ran it as a miss. It was not. StreetInsider compared GAAP earnings of $1.07 a share with a $1.93 adjusted consensus, and last year's $408.2 million revenue with a $443 million estimate 17. Like-for-like, adjusted EPS was $2.09 against $1.75 16.

Half the raise is a bet on interest rates

The float is the interest Paylocity earns on client payroll money held between payday. CFO Ryan Glenn split the $30 million raise on the call: $15 million is a higher interest-income forecast on that float, and it "flows 100% to the bottom line"; the rest is the Q1 beat plus about $7 million of software 3. For fiscal 2027 the company expects roughly $118 million of float income on a $3.5 billion average client-fund balance at about 340 basis points, assuming no Federal Reserve moves beyond September's 25 basis point increase 35.

That line already shrank once: $27.2 million in Q1, down from $29.3 million a year earlier 16.

The AI story and the arithmetic

Management sells AI-led growth: Recruiting Optimizer helps clients fill roles 25% faster, and Ignite AI has answered nearly 30 million questions since launch 35. But the guide's arithmetic says half the raise is a rate call, not software demand. Operating cash flow fell to $79.7 million from $86.5 million, and the adjusted EBITDA beat excluding float was the smallest since Paylocity started guiding that figure 15. Client headcount rose only "modestly" 3.

The EPS is partly bought

Paylocity repurchased 1.1 million shares for $152.5 million at about $139, diluted shares fell nearly 4%, and roughly $1.1 billion of authorization remains 12. At $169.57, the stock trades near 13 times guided adjusted EBITDA 24. Growth is guided down to about 8% from 11% 24. The October jobs report lands this morning, consensus +65,000 against +29,000 in September 4: it sets both the per-employee revenue base and the rate path behind the 340 basis points. Watch payrolls, not headlines.

The float line fell last quarter, and the guide assumes no more rate help

Tyler Technologies sells AI to governments at flat prices while rival UiPath bills per item

Tyler Technologies says public-sector customers fear the meter, so its roughly 300 AI deals carry single-digit revenue uplift and flat pricing while rivals like UiPath bill per document. The bet: forced cloud migrations and buybacks, not AI invoices, pay for the stock.

Shopify missed for the first time in four years; Affirm's 34% growth and Klaviyo's raise say demand moved

Shopify missed for the first time in four years, but Affirm's 34 percent GMV growth and Klaviyo's beat-and-raise inside two days say demand shifted, not died. The real question is whether Shopify's AI bill lands before its agentic checkout pays off.
