Roblox, most-played game on earth at 4.05 billion hours, now faces addiction suits; stock down 37%
Roblox is the most-played game on earth by total hours, and this week those same hours became an addiction complaint in court, a target of Norway's under-16 law and the test of a stock down 37 percent this year.

Roblox+2.52% — Roblox, up 2.52 percent today has never been played more, and this week the hours themselves became the accusation. Data firms Newzoo and GEEIQ reported today that Roblox carried 4.05 billion hours of PC and console play in the first half of 2026, more than any other game 1. A day earlier, Dawson Little, 23, told a San Francisco court that Roblox and Epic, Fortnite's maker, used operant conditioning, the filing's term for reward loops tuned to keep players playing, to addict him as a minor 2.
Investors and the plaintiffs and regulators now going after Roblox read the same hours in opposite ways. Players over 16 already spend like traditional gamers: 80 percent of them put money into games in the past six months, against 59 percent of non-Roblox players 1. That maturing, paying cohort is the bull case; the Street splits 13 Buy ratings against 3 Sell 3.
The hours themselves are now the alleged injury
The docket was deep before this week: about 180 exploitation suits sit consolidated in San Francisco, and six states settled with Roblox between April and September, each deal binding it to age checks and limits on adult contact with under-16s 7. What is new is the framing: the complaint names the engagement loop itself as the harm.
Kotaku notes addiction claims against games have been filed for decades and expects this one to be dismissed 2. Governments do not need it to win. Norway said this week its planned under-16 law will cover Roblox, citing addictive features among the risks 6. San Diego County sued on October 5 over child safety 5.
Age checks arrived by settlement and rollout, and they are already cutting bookings
Roblox made AI-based facial age estimation mandatory worldwide in January 4. On April 30 it cut its full-year bookings outlook by about $1.2 billion at the midpoint, to $7.33–7.6 billion 4. A shareholder suit filed October 20 in Nevada state court, alongside two federal securities class actions, alleges executives told investors the effects had been studied 4. Bookings, the spending measure Wall Street tracks, are guided down 14 to 18 percent for the third quarter 3. Reported revenue, which lags bookings, was still rising through the second quarter 8.

Each hit earns less as automated supply spreads
The top ten games draw about 20 percent of hours, down from about 30 percent three years ago, and Chief Financial Officer Naveen Chopra has warned the weakness continues 3. Supply spreads anyway: Roblox's prompt-to-game tool Build already draws more daily users in New Zealand than Studio, its professional editor, and Alphabet's−2.13% — Alphabet, down 2.13 percent today Playground, Google's experimental tool that turns text prompts into playable games, launched October 7 3.
October 29 tests whether the older audience pays
Roblox reports after the close on October 29 3. The quarter's viral hit, Steal an Egg, logged six billion visits, and visit counts say nothing about spending 3. Watch bookings against the $1.65 billion top of guidance, then any fourth-quarter outlook against a Street expectation near $2.0 billion 3. The litigation will grind for years; the remedy it forced is already in the guidance. The verified, paying, older audience exists 1. October 29 has to show Roblox can earn from it 1.
