Shopify reports Tuesday with $42.1 million settled on the Coinbase stablecoin rail it built

The first hard agentic numbers are on the tape this week, $42.1 million settled on Shopify's stablecoin rail with Coinbase, a 13% conversion lift claimed by Salesforce with a November meter coming for agent calls, and Shopify's Tuesday print is the first test of who has priced the agent surface right.

Shopify chief executive Tobi Lütke at Shopify Unite 2018. The company reports its first quarter since opening checkout to rival AI agents on Tuesday, November 3.

Tuesday, November 3, Shopify−5.82% — Shopify, down 5.82 percent today reports its first quarter since it opened checkout to rival AI agents and kept the fraud liability (the mechanics are covered in the October 2 piece here).

The week before the print, the industry's first hard numbers on agentic commerce landed, and they are small. The Commerce Payments Protocol Shopify built with Coinbase−9.79% — Coinbase, down 9.79 percent today had settled about $42.1 million across more than 448,000 payments on Base as of October 2, per Dune Analytics data cited in a Base case study 1, and those figures count all traffic on the protocol, not Shopify stores alone 1. Shopify is valued at $214.73 billion 2. The stock fell 5.63% on Friday, October 30, and has been rangebound 3.

Revenue has more than doubled in three years while the agent rail has settled $42 million

Shopify quarterly revenue in billions of US dollars, per its SEC filings [4]. Not plotted, carried in the text instead: the Shopify-Coinbase Commerce Payments Protocol's $42.1 million cumulative settled volume as of October 2 [1] and Shopify's $214.73 billion market capitalization [2].4

The quarter itself was never the question

Revenue has more than doubled in three years, from $1.71 billion in the quarter ended September 2023 to $3.58 billion in the quarter ended June 2026 4. Wall Street expects Q3 earnings per share of about $0.45, up 32%, on revenue of $3.74 billion, up 31% 5, with consensus gross merchandise volume at $118.73 billion 5. The agentic story is already inside those estimates: AI-driven orders to Shopify stores tripled year-over-year in Q2, and Shop Pay has handled checkout inside Meta's Muse assistant since the September 21 deal 6.

Two pricing models, one agent surface

Salesforce−1.03% — Salesforce, down 1.03 percent today published the first vendor conversion numbers for agent-native shopping search on October 30: a 13% conversion lift and a 17% add-to-cart lift, with no methodology, sample size or baseline disclosed 7. Its own October analysis puts the share of merchants holding the structured product data agents need at 15% 7. And Salesforce has confirmed it will charge for every call a registered agent makes to its platform from November, with the multiplier still marked TBA 7.

Shopify's earnings call took the opposite side of the same bet: agentic transactions carry the same economics as online-store transactions with no new fees, while management concedes agentic volume remains small against total GMV 8. One camp meters the calls now; the other bets the orders follow.

The cost line with no agent column yet

Transaction and loan losses reached $141 million in Q2, up from $80 million a year earlier as Shopify Capital scaled, against a valuation near 87 times full-year 2026 earnings and a CFO who has warned Shopify has not set a "new normal" for free cash flow margins 6. If agents bring orders Shopify's software did not originate, the free surface carries a cost the disclosure does not yet break out; the record shows losses rising and the agent book unpriced, not what agents add to either.

Tuesday is the first reading of what the agent surface costs

The November 3 print, the first since checkout opened, can answer three things: whether management discloses an agentic GMV or attach figure at all, whether any move toward metering appears, and what the loss line does 9. Until then the agent economy has one disclosed volume, $42.1 million 1, and one disclosed price for it, zero 8.

Sales growth at the small businesses on Xero's books hit a five-month low in Australia last quarter, and most of the company's own revenue growth came from charging them more. The half-year result on November 12 will show whether the 57% share-price fall is a fear of AI replacing accounting software, or of the wallets of the small businesses being billed.
