Sierra passed $400 million in ARR, bought Anon, and signed Guardian Life for a million dental calls a year

Guardian Life pays Sierra per finished outcome for about a million dental calls a year, so Sierra bought the browser layer that lets agents finish the paperwork. The budget those calls and 2,000 staff came out of belonged to per-seat and per-head vendors: HCLTech, RingCentral, 8x8 and Salesforce's legacy stack.

Sierra~$10B — Sierra, private, latest valuation ~$10B bought Anon and signed Guardian Life on the same day, and the pairing is one deal: Guardian pays Sierra only when a request is finished, so an agent that answers a call but stalls at a login screen costs Sierra money. Anon supplies the missing piece, authentication, credential handling and browser control on sites with no API.

The contract pays per finished task

Guardian, the US mutual insurer founded in 1860, is moving about a million dental benefit-verification calls a year to Sierra's agents, plus payment processing and claim-status checks, under a multi-year partnership announced November 5 23. Sierra, the customer-service agent company run by Bret Taylor and Clay Bavor, passed $400 million in annual recurring revenue on October 30, adding more than $150 million in the third quarter alone, and it charges for results such as a claim paid, not for seats 46.

Sierra doubled twice: six months to $200M, five to $400M

Anon closes the gap between answering and finishing

Anon had raised more than $13 million building what its founder called "Plaid for AI agents"; the purchase price is undisclosed 17. Its agents handle multifactor logins, run for hours on one task and recover when something breaks, with hundreds of thousands of production tasks completed 1. Sierra's Horizon agents pursue goals that run for weeks, like originating a loan, across multiple systems, many without APIs 16. If the agent cannot get through the portal, the outcome is not delivered and Sierra is not paid.

One budget, re-cut three times this year

Guardian's year shows the money moving. In July it handed HCLTech a seven-year deal taking over its India center and nearly 2,000 staff; in February it brought in Avantos for advisor workflows; now Sierra takes the highest-volume service line 35. The per-head and per-seat layers are the ones being replaced.

Who holds the contracts those calls were

The investable exposure sits with listed vendors whose pricing assumes people. RingCentral−2.84% — RingCentral, down 2.84 percent today and 8x8−2.00% — 8x8, down 2.00 percent today are bolting AI-agent supervision onto contact-center seats to defend the same spend, and disclosed AI revenue is still only 12 to 15 percent of what CX vendors report 4. Salesforce−3.51% — Salesforce, down 3.51 percent today, Taylor's former company, is paying $3.6 billion for Fin to chase the same per-outcome market 3.

HCLTech holds the labor flank: if Guardian's service agents close routine calls the way its India unit once did, the seven-year contract's value leans harder on the work agents cannot do. Sierra is private, last priced at $15 billion in a $950 million May raise, so the next check on its momentum is where its secondary mark or any disclosure lands 3.

Genpact raised its 2026 outlook as its data-and-AI segment grew 30.3% and agentic bookings head past $1 billion, five times 2025. The catch sits in the cash-flow statement: receivables absorbed $406 million of cash in nine months and operating cash flow fell 73%, to $142 million, while profit rose.

Figma's quarter shows what it costs to hand every design team an AI agent before those teams pay for it: gross margin fell three points and the stock fell 16.7% in a day. The bet is that 2.5x credit consumption and a first-party model turn the bill into pricing power.
