The Trade Desk guides its first revenue decline, 12%, and Netflix ad data goes live without measurement
The ad-tech platform guided its first-ever revenue decline ahead of the November 9 print, the same month its Netflix data targeting goes live without the measurement tool that renews budgets.

The Trade Desk+0.64% — The Trade Desk, up 0.64 percent today built its business as the buy-side pipe: agencies run self-service campaigns through its platform and the company takes a fee on every advertising dollar that flows. On November 9, after the close, that fee engine reports third-quarter numbers it has already guided down 1. The floor is at least $650 million against $739.4 million in the same quarter last year, the first guided revenue decline in the company's history, roughly a 12% fall 24.
The slide is not one bad quarter. Second-quarter revenue of $715.06 million grew just 3%, missing the $752.41 million consensus, with adjusted earnings of $0.34 against $0.40 expected 2. Trailing growth of 11.6% has halved from 23.2%, and each quarter since June 2025 decelerated on the one before it 2.
Tariffs, trading down and 500 job cuts
Management blamed autos and consumer-packaged-goods advertisers, about a quarter of the business, cutting budgets over tariffs, and others trading down to cheap media. In September it cut 15% of its workforce, more than 500 people 28. The stock closed November 2 at $12.55, down 75.4% over a year, a $6.1 billion company at 14.1 times trailing earnings 24.
The Netflix door opens without a measuring stick
The untold mechanism is timing. This month, The Trade Desk's Kokai platform starts pointing advertisers' own customer data and third-party segments at Netflix inventory, where programmatic already moves nearly half of non-live ad space across more than 250 million monthly users 3.
The toolkit is broad: over 4 million audience segments and 300 data providers connected 3. But TTD's conversion attribution on Netflix is still in development, behind Yahoo DSP, where native measurement already runs 3. Budgets renew on proof, and the proof tool is unfinished. Meanwhile its Mumbai data-partnerships director left for WPP Media in November 5.
The bargain case has receipts too
The bulls have numbers, not just hope. Free cash flow hit $136 million in the June quarter, up from $117 million, most of the top 100 accounts still grew double digits as of the August call, and Vanguard filed a 13G showing 22.6 million shares, 5.3% of the class, as of September 30 27. A fallen growth story with cash flow is a different animal from a dying one.
What the print decides
Two questions on November 9: does revenue clear the $650 million floor, and does management show the Netflix+0.63% — Netflix, up 0.63 percent today pipe converting spend, not just carrying it 8? One competitor already took the crown while TTD stumbled: Reddit's+4.29% — Reddit, up 4.29 percent today quarterly revenue of $895 million, up 53%, passed The Trade Desk's for the first time in the September quarter 8. The company that was going to unlock the open internet now has to prove it can still bill it.
