Ultra Clean Holdings posts a record $759 million quarter as Lam Research says parts cap the AI chip boom
Ultra Clean's record $759 million quarter, up 49% with guidance above estimates, is the first supplier-level evidence of the chip-tool shortage Lam Research flagged last week. The bill sits with the supplier: negative operating cash flow, $723 million of hoarded inventory and fresh share sales.

Revenue hit a record $759 million, up 49% from $510 million a year earlier, adjusted earnings of $1.15 a share beat the $0.94 consensus, and fourth-quarter guidance of $800 million to $860 million topped the Street 13. The supplier is financing someone else's boom
The cost of the record sits below the income statement. Operating cash flow was negative $42.3 million, and inventory climbed $93.4 million to $723.3 million as the company pre-ordered critical components and held safety stock 4. The financing is visible too: $600 million of convertible notes issued this year, then 432,000 shares sold for about $34 million in the third quarter, and 2.2 million more for $169.1 million in the first week of the fourth, at an average price of $78.45 14.

Two customers took 61% of the quarter's revenue 4. Days earlier, Lam Research+5.52% — Lam Research, up 5.52 percent today finance chief Doug Bettinger said his December-quarter outlook "would have been a bit higher if not for some near-term supply chain constraints," adding that vendors are "well capitalized and can manage this on their own from a financial standpoint" 5. One of them is managing it with share sales.

The named constraint is the mass-flow controller, the valve that meters gas into an etch or deposition chamber. Chief executive James Xiao said the shortage "may continue for a quarter or 2," while insisting that UCT missed not a single module customers required last quarter 4.
A Malaysia cleanroom came online early, capacity reaches roughly $4 billion of annual revenue by the first quarter, and another $80 million to $100 million is budgeted through 2027 and 2028 42. Xiao now expects 2027 spending on wafer fab equipment, the tools that make chips, above $200 billion 4.
Ichor reports November 2
Gross margin was 17.3% against a 20% target at $4 billion of revenue, so the walk from record to profitable is the arithmetic that decides the bull case 4. The next receipt arrives November 2, when Ichor, the fluid-delivery peer that guided its September quarter to $315–345 million of revenue, reports 6. The AI boom is no longer limited by appetite for chips. It is limited by clean rooms, welding and who pays for them.
